Idk man. I've seen too much of this shit with the likes of previous mistakes with Broberg and Holloway for example. Young players that are ready but don't get the pick over a 'vet' who does barely anything but has random intangibles on why he should be favored. I'm not saying Savoie is the answer to unlock the Oilers mistakes right now, but for a team that's lacking in offensive juice right now, I'm not on the Caggiula train. Guy's an AHL player at best.
Caggiula isn't up here to score goals (would be nice if he could), he's here to send a message to the bottom six guys about effort and what's expected of that group, and that a few of them are pretty close to getting waived and sent down to the farm. That was a get your head out of your ass callup.

I think that's a very generous take, I think he up because the Oilers didn't add enough depth, lost Lavoie and bizarrely think he's effective in some way.

Sorry but i agree with the keep 'the sparkplug' on the farm right now.
You keep saying he should come up and spark plug the team. But he should come up when the team can help him be a spark plug. Right now things are not sorted by far.
40 games on the farm likely does alot to help sparky on the downside of the puck too.

Then that's pretty sad that the best available option they have is Caggiula to potentially 'wake up' the bottom 6 players. More reason why a player like Lavoie shouldn't have been waived. Bottom 6 forwards have combined for a mere 3 goals. Caggiula doesn't bring much to the table for me to approve imo.

Really hope Philp plays well. There is room here on the fourth line even with McD's return. Ryan needs to play about half the games or less anyways.

I think it's bizarre that anyone would think Lavoie would be head and shoulders above Caggulia.
Quite different players as Lavoie has more offensive potential but hard to trust defensively and is very slow to learn the downside of the puck. Everyone here knows coaches expect a certain level of awareness first.

Without question, it's not even close.

Lavoie is big, can scrap and has some upside (though limited), Caggiula is basically a younger version the standard career AHLers like Seth Griffith, Chris Terry, Alex Belzile or Zac Dalpe.

Caggiula brings next to nothing to the table lol.

I think if both Hamblin or Pederson weren't injured, they'd both be up over Caggiula. Would've been happy with Hamblin too. There's a significant depth problem and depth player evaluation problem if Caggiula is one of the callups. He's just not good at all.

Man claiming Yamo would have been great now (though no way to know McDavid would get hurt lol)

I don't care much about Yamo lol. I just think Caggiula being the next available best player to call up is just junk af. Philp makes sense and should've been in the NHL lineup from day 1 over the likes of Ryan especially since I view him as the future 4C too. He has all of what you would want in a bottom 6 player. I liked the Drake during his first tenure as an Oiler, but that was back in 2016. Now? Yeeeeeeeesh.

Imo you could not have just moved on from Ryan. There is a lot of margin of error in preseason and early in the regular season, and Ryan was good in the playoffs. He earned his spot and has some leash before losing it. Last night might have used up that leash.

I wonder if we will avoid making any moves until we know for sure what is going on with McDavid.

I'd really like to know how 19 GP with 1 assist last playoff run is deemed good.
Ryan's skating and age has gotten to him this season. That's the problem I see with him and I'm a fan of DR.

We need speed and energy and we call up a 4th like AHL grinder. This organization can’t get out of its own way sometimes.

Philp could learn some things from Ryan. I'm happy for the kid, who is not so much a kid anymore at 26. This is his shot

Because he’s not here to score goals, he’s the right hand face off own zone start and PK guy. I don’t get why our fans don’t see how teams have roles and it’s not line everybody up who can score the most goals.

He's been off to a subpar start, so maybe Philip can push him a bit, but I know who I want at 4C in the postseason.

He didn't score but he did his bottom six role well, with solid defensive play and smart puck decisions. These strengths are what we might need to worry about with Philp

I agree about Ryan this year though. So far it's hard not to see it any other way than that he's lost another step and it's one too many
