Wonder if we could pull off the assets for Dobson. I doubt NYI would trade him though. That’s probably what Nurse needs

if the options are that we do one of the following...

1 - make this trade

or

2 - sign Bouchard to a long term deal at 10 million per plus.

...if these are the only options, then I say make the trade. The idea of this player getting the rumoured AAV on a long term deal are very concerning to me. So concerning, that I'd rather the team trade him for a player that isn't as good on paper as Bouchard, just to avoid the potential horrible contract. He looks nothing like the player from last year.
First off, he's not getting 10 mil plus, second, he's still a young defenseman and development isn't linear, that may be a cliche, but it's a cliche because it's true.

Second, trading him now while he's struggling a bit would be monumentally stupid. Let's take this young, right-shot, top 3-5 offensive D-man and trade him when his value is at its absolute lowest because he's bobbling the puck a bit and can't get his shots through right now.

People forget he hasn't even hit 300 games played in the NHL. The Oilers trade him and they flat out are not finding another player with his skill set.

Ya he's got flaws, but some on here basically expect him to be Makar, and because he isn't, well that's just not good enough apparently...

So you'd trade Bouchard for a prospect based on a 15 game sample size? Yikes

Edmonton
David Jiricek for Evan Bouchard as a base. Additions can ne discussed,

Any interest for the Oilers ?
How many Jiricek's you got?

We're chasing Cups. We're not trading a top pairing defenceman that's had two phenomenal playoffs for us for a 20 year old that's not even an everyday NHLer right now.

I cant think of any additions that make Edmonton a better team today. It's a poor base.

Columbus would absolutely not do that unless they were sending back a contract they don't want (eg Merzlikins).
Edmonton would absolutely not trade Bouchard for a 20 year old prospect that hasn't accomplished anything at the NHL level so I don't think either side wants anything do with each other. The pieces we'd want they want to keep and vice versa.

We're a terrible target for a team looking to trade prospects for established, contributing NHLers. Absolutely terrible.

If there is a d. Jiricek sweeps you would have to imagine whoever wins will have a pretty good goalie or developed prospect goalie to give up as well as some futures. CBJ's goalie situation is a fair amount more inconsistent than ours.
Vancouver could give up Silovs. They won't like it but they have a bit of depth there. Similarly with Nashville they have some goalie depth and will need a D with upside for next year.

clearly Dustin Schwartz is holding him back...watch him flourish with a real goalie coach
Ian Clarke could come here and it would not make a lick of a difference. It's not the goalie coach IMO, but they should sack him anyways to change things. It makes no sense.

Schwartz sucks too. It doesn't have to be just one thing. A goalie can be average/mediocre and the goaltending coach can also suck.

Schwatz should be fired for reccomending Campbell alone.

Bouchard just scored the most points for a D in a playoffs since Paul Coffey. He's an All-Star caliber player.

Jiricek can't even make your roster. You'd be adding *a lot*.
*Maybe* in the offseason if the Oilers can't get a contract done and are forced to move him something like Bouchard for Jiricek with massive, MASSIVE pluses makes sense but top pairing RD are the hardest thing in the league to find. That trade is not happening in-season for Edmonton and it's damned sure not happening for a guy that's a gigantic positional downgrade.

Both Oilers and Islanders fans that love to hate their own offensively talented D (can we all wanna be like Mark Spector I assume) can all cheer for Bouch for Dobson :) Dobson having a rough start as well with 0 goals, 6 assists and -5.

The young lads choking a bit in their contract years. Both will end up fine though I would bet.

NYI will give up Pulock before Dobson. Pulock is my sleeper pick for who the Oilers are looking at.

yeah, having a hard time seeing much that I want on that roster.

I do wonder about the cost on Lars Eller though.

For the record, Bouchard's still been very good 5v5. Our powerplay mysteriously going to shit is hurting him a lot.
I'd also have some time for Acciari or Glass if the Penguins are willing to retain 50%, but it's a pretty short list.

Alright boys, time to pick the pens clean, everyone on the table.
The Penguins don't really have anything I'd want. They'll never give up Malkin and Crosby of course and both Letang and Karlsson are just too old now. The last thing we need is more geezers. We have way too many of those.

I'd definitely be circling around the Predators though. They'd probably be willing to give us someone like Carrier if we put together the right package for them.

Schwartz should’ve been fired in 2016 for running Talbot into the ground.

He could’ve even been fired earlier due to his handling of our goaltending from 2014-2015.

He should’ve been fired after advising Chiarelli to go after Koskinen.

We could write a f***ing novel on why this guy should be collecting EI and not on the team.

I have interest in you leaving our board and never posting here again.

I know that’s harsh, but you literally just tried to create a trade where we get rid of a defender that scored 82 points last year for a guy that’s played 52 NHL games.

Like what? Do you want to f*** my sister as well?
