As I said the combine results are going to be accurate. From there if an 5'8" 18 year old puts on close top 30 lbs without gaining height that is a really incredible thing. I mean some kids have late growth spurts but 30 lbs or even 20 LBS on someone that size would be a massive change in the body structure. But as I said, I have no conclusive evidence that the NHL.com number is wrong though weight data has never been a strength of that site.
He actually gained at least an inch in height from the combine and he was essentially a skinny kid at that point in time.
So its not unusual that he has since put on say 25 lbs.
That IMO is not at all unreasonable especially when you consider that he was very likely told that he needed to prioritize adding muscle if he wanted to play in the NHL.

I think its in a way comparable to my own situation as a teenager. I was a skinny (140 lb) 5'9" 17 year old kid.
Over the next 5 years I put on 45lbs of muscle and grew 3 inches.
I actually grew another 2 inches (and put on an additional 20 lbs) in my early 20's as well so maybe Yamamoto is 0.5 to 1 inch taller a little heavier than the NHL states.

If your claim is that their data is off then it isnt inconceivable that its off in the other direction with his height. Maybe he is
So in any event for Yamamoto to grow 1 to 1.5 inches and put on 25 lbs (or more) of muscle (on a skinny frame) in 4-5 years is well within the realm of possibility.

Matches the eye test. Knob Hockey is still working great. And yeh, Emberson has really come along. Like many thought, it's not that hard to replace Ceci.
The key has been in Knoblauch's deployment. Essentially running a top 4 with Kulak being split between second and third pairing running 18:15 TOI. That's up from 15:23 last year (he was 17:30 and 17:45 years prior to that). Nurse and Kulak have been pretty stable as a middle pair. Moonlighting Nurse at 2RD helps to test/assess if their d-upgrade could possibly shift to more plentiful and likely cheaper left shooting option.

Emberson is starting to stabilize with consistent third pair ice-time and competition. Then they rotate the limited #7 journeymen with 13-13:50 minutes bumping up more in lopsided games.

Oil d-corp still needs a veteran puck mover to help their transition game which stalls out in their own end. And ideally a guy that has second pair PK ability to help their subterranean penalty kill.

Yamamoto still looks tiny out there.

And as recently as 2 years ago he was listed at 153 on the nhl website.

The nhl website has no vested interest in being correct. They gain or lose nothing from having the correct heights and weights on there.

And if you’ve seen Yamamoto in person, he’s definitely not 5’9.

Its not a hangover. We had a worse start last season following a 2-round playoffs
Thats how its being described from people close to the team.
Based on the results so far it makes sense. We havent seen this level of inconsistency under Knoblauch until this season.
The start last season was under Woody so the dynamic was quite different.

Savoie is starting to warm up in the AHL as i thought. You can start to see flashes of a pretty impressive player. We really need to spend as much assets other than Savoie and Reilly , even roster players to solidify our defense. Under 30,reliable puck mover who can move. If Savoie pans out and Kane comes back , our Forward core is fine.

I pretty sure Pickard would get claimed if put on waivers.
That being the case, what happens if the Kahkonen experiment doesn't work?
I’m not so sure Pickard would get claimed, he’s rocking an .886 this year and likely the difference between him or Kahkonen is negligible. Kahkonen has had decent career numbers, even managing to maintain somewhat respectable numbers on a horrific sharks team. In the highly unlikely event he’s unplayable then you have Rodrigue who’s playing really well in Bako or they’ll probably have the chance to claim Pickard back at some point.

There is a great article over on the Athletic by Lowetide talking about the Oilers defensive make-up. In summary, despite what most think- Oilers defense has been excellent. Nurse-Kulak as a second pair or Nurse-Stetcher as a second pair have been performing at what a typical 2nd pair does for championship teams. Emerson, after a shaky start, has been excellent. He also posted some numbers on Nurse playing on his right and they are, surprisingly, very good. It has opened up his ability to transition the puck. He even suggested, that if this keeps up, it may be better for the Oilers to look for a left d partner for Emberson. It’s still early - let’s see how it holds up.

5 on 5 we've been good defensively aside from that Vegas game.

I don't really know if we need some top, expensive no.4 D. Our PK needs to seriously wake up, that's the main problem, but that issue is intertwined with our goalies. They let every HD chance on the PK in.

Honestly think having another goalie, even a low cost option should be of equal concern. There are just now too many red flags piling up on Skinner and we know Pickard is an AHLer/fringe NHL player.

Isn't that the point? We've had a similarly disasterous start both seasons with different coaches.

I think now might be an ideal time to buy low on Morgan Frost, while I think it is entirely fair to say he isn't better than either J. Skinner or Kane, IMO he is a better stylistic fit for what we are lacking on the Henrique + Brown line, in that I think the line would benefit from more speed, better zone entries, and could use some playmaking to up the quality of chances the line produces.

Henrique in particular I think flourishes more in situations where he has a playmaker who can adjust to him and get him the puck in specific timing windows.
