I'd bet that even if we are not in a playoff spot by then we will spend like we are.

I think we will be okay though. The team has to resolve things and it's taking too long. It's a bad pattern for this group

Philp probably makes more sense as a center, I could see them “loading” the top 6 and moving Henrique up there so Nuge can stay on the wing.

Other teams have goalie departments - Oilers don’t. They have very little investment on the goaltending position.Stauffer was talking about his over the summer as well

Looking at our mess of a D, can anyone believe there's a Sharks defenseman with not just an even rating but a PLUS on a team that hasn't won a game yet and been -21 overall?

We should really be doing all we can to pick up Mario Ferraro before one of our usual pains in the ass like Colorado, Vegas or now Florida make the smart Moneypuck style move that wins Cups. Ferraro's got two years left at $3.25M, that's well below the cap we will have accrued at the deadline- even room to add a scoring W for the top nine or a strong veteran 4C on top.

Ferraro could be a great partner for Bouch as he does his thing. That would let us staple Ekholm, our own Mr. Fix It, to Nurse's side and maybe just maybe salvage some of that contract:

With the way Grier tossed us Emberson in a cap dump deal, here's hoping his soft spot for the Oil runs a mile wide and he's willing to help us out here too.

The mess of a D thing is media being lazy and not digging in (also avoiding saying anything bad about Skinner). The fact is that this team just doesn’t give up a whole lot of high danger chances against. It looks bad because the goalie can’t make a save and gives up horrendous rebounds.

What if mcdavid is out for a few months and we put him on ltir? That’s a lot of salary for a few months. If we had him and Kane come back late in the season we could fit more than a dman, maybe also a center or goalie.

I think it will be Caggiula getting recalled. They will demote Dermott to keep acquiring cap space. Also solves the veteran max issue in Bako.

I think the "mess of D" is a bit overstated after a poor start. There are definitely "eye test shows bad" moments and probably even some poor analytics here or there to go with them, but they're for 4th for shots against allowed, which isn't a sure thing on its own but is a promising stat. After some rough goaltending outings to start, 'bad luck' and poor support from disinterested forwards, might be best to see how things shake out a bit more before paying a premium early in the season when even expected lotto teams are a bit reluctant to sell.

You have to be compliant when he comes back and y the team has almost no resources to get anything in return. What you see is what you get and the reality is this team may become sellers this year if he’s out long term and the team craps the bed.

RD needs to be more than a talking point and sooner rather than later. Stu will eventually become what he has always been a somewhat inconsistent but pretty good goalie that should share the net.
He seems to have two good games and one bad game pretty often.
We should seriously upgrade our AHL goaltending in the meantime. Rodrigue will never be good enough to be a 1b and probably never even be backup quality.
The PP needs a different look at least for a while. With McDavid out its a good opportunity to give a second PP unit more of a look.

I would be happier if we found a permanent replacement for Ryan as 4C. Love the guy, he's all heart, but he's no longer an every day NHLer.

I'm so glad we kept Henrique. There is no way to replace McDavid, but at least we still have 2 top six centers.

Jarventie sometime after the deadline maybe? Savoie eventually takes some games from Perry too. Maybe a bit of wishful thinking on my part. I've seen some games with Jarventie at centre. But after junior haven't seen Savoie play at all so maybe talking a bit out my ass.
