So many former Oilers now are GM. Grier, Staois, Guerin. I wonder if they spent a lot of their DOD Oilers days thinking about trades and signings and got the bug to become GMs.

Would have been interesting to see if an OBC 2.0 could have managed a team well in Edmonton. Guerin has done a good job with the Wild. Grier looks to be well on his way to building something in San Jose, especially that Walman trade and their drafting is hitting.

It was funny to see all those people do nothing but bash Grier. He inherited utter crap. An org that gutted their farm system and had aging veterans with NMCs who he needed to ship out. Grier's rebuild might overtake golden boy Stevie Y's

I thought early days Grier wasn't maximizing his position as a Cup dumping ground compared to say Arizona or Chicago. But maybe he was just being selective. The power of draft picks hitting has really turned my view on him, and yeh, meanwhile Stevie's picks having been just okay and they probably tried to compete a year too early.

Depending on the source. Sharks did offer take cap dumps or be the 3rd team involved in trades, but it sounded like the picks being offered were not equal to the dump they were being involved in. Also, it sounds like the Sharks have an internal cap to deal with

Yeh that could be possible. And definitely, can't fault him for dealing with an internal cap, that's for sure. Hey we got the Emberson-Ceci swap done with Grier, I got no issues with him.

Rags getting pumped again.

Seen on Rangers board:

"Time to think about trading Igor. He is problem. He plays and can’t make a save. I think his wanting all that money, the rest of the team doesn’t play hard in front of him."

Yeh that piss poor D core and giving up 2 breakaways every game isn't the issue. It's Igor.

Anyways, you guys can proceed to fawn over the Igor possibility. :p

And I suspect that is why they added 2 3rds. When the trade happened, I ask a shark fan what the heck just happened and that is when he mentioned internal cap that the sharks wont admit to having
Yes and that's another handicap that Grier had to put up with, while a lot of other rebuilding teams don't.

That might have been a blessing though. Teams who tried to speed up a rebuild with spending usually flopped.

Kind of interesting comparing and contrasting thoughts about goaltending from a fanbase that has it (nyr) and a fanbase that doesn't (us).

Quotes from the Rags Board:
"Sign and trade with a western conference team. His talent is not the issue, its the goalie position in the modern game. You dont need a Roy, Brodeur, Belfour to win the cup anymore. And you dont need to handcuff your salary cap with another bloated contract that will last well into their 30s."

"The team won’t win a thing with or without Igor making north of $10m a year, I’d much prefer to see where the “without” path takes us since we have a pretty solid understanding of where the “with” path takes us."

"A goalie worth 12 million dollars doesn't single handedly lose a game the Rangers needed to have last night. Last straw with this guy. Instead of being a leader and rising to the occasion this bum single handedly lost us the game."

"Ah. So it's his fault that our D can't recover or clear the puck, and then let one of the Canes players come right out in front of the net. This is all after making a great one-timer save in the slot. It's also his f***ing fault that one of our guys takes a penalty. Then, while we give up the blue line in a Canes rush, three out of the four Rangers on the kill are caught low on goal line and completely forget about the Canes player WIDE open in the slot. Singlehandedly. Right..."

"Insane to blame anyone but Igor for that game tying goal but you do you. And also that first goal. Always someone else's fault never his. I guess he has to go full Charlie Lindgren for you to blame him for a goal."

"Igor can’t save a beach ball."

"if they bring this overrated piece of shit back here it's actively fandom testing for me at this point"

"No way they can give him a big contract. Hes not that good and the team has way too many problems to tie up all that money in a goalie."
Some of these are like looking in the mirror LOL.

You guys will say "Why the f*** does this dude wont work at all?" After seeing 10 games of Kasperi Kapanen.

We're missing 3 of our top 6 wingers in Kane, Arvidsson, and Hyman to injuries. Kapanen's a stopgap and has played well enough so far. Wtf is the point of coming into our boards to yap about that nonsense about a waiver claimed player, lmao. Good lord. Go back to where you came from :help:

Doubt we could even get him. But let's be real, put a Vezina winner like him on this team's net, and it's a legitimate cup threat in the league. Ranger fans blaming Igor like how they blamed Lundqvist is so typical.

Even more real, we were already a legitimate cup threat without so whatevs. Every team has their strengths and weaknesses, we got the powers of McDrai, they got Shesty. If any team had both, well maybe your talking a dynasty, but that's not how it works in the NHL.

Is SHesterkin a UFA this year?

He can be a very good goalie. He has struggled a bit this year though. You just can't go pay goalies what he wants. It's absurd.

He is around 13/14th in a lot of metrics. You better be top 5 all of the time to want close to 10 mill

I've never been really impressed with the rangers in all honesty especially when we face them.
Even the W/L record shows it. 7-2-1.
