Why are we talking about trading assets for a 4C when we have a 26 year old right shot 4C available to us down in the AHL on a league min deal? Philp isn't a young player anymore. He looked good in the preseason. Has looked good in the AHL and looked good in his brief stint in the NHL.
I liked Philp when he was brought up. Hockey IQ was apparent. I just heard Chaulk say he's slow processing defensively though, so that's probably why.

4C? Welcome back, Sam Carrick !

If we go any where near Trouba I will flip.

We can't really afford him anyway. We'd need multiple retention. Trouba isn't worth all that trouble even with a generous take. Plus he's got a NMC. He's not going anywhere

I don't think any of those 3 needed much convincing to play defense (Knob previously coached 2 of those 3) and I'm not seeing anything close to what I'd call mistake free hockey from that bunch.

To me EK is a homerun swing for a team hoping to catch lightning in a bottle, twice he was brought in to elevate an aging core and both times he seemed to do more to make those teams worse rather than better.

I just don't see the need to take such a gamble and potentially get stuck with that kind of term and money, we seem to be at a stage where it is more about a small handful of shrewd moves to supplement/support our core.
Emberson was a complete mess with his outlets to start that year. That has leveled off and he's picking his spots better now, playing within his limits. The D as a whole have also done a better job clearing/clogging net front lately, we saw that this weekend. Stecher probably played the best two games of his life.

I consider them to be mostly headache free LATELY. And for a good stretch now. There's still coverage issues in our game but that's more on the team than any individual I think.

I see no scenario where EK65 with his ability can't bring Defense on the same level as an Emberson or Stecher or Ceci. Defence is also not just played in zone, you have to consider the ability to move pucks out and retain possession in the o-zone (the BEST defence possible). EK65 right now at 34, brings elite skating and elite puck movement. I did note that he looks soft in the D-zone though, so I see where the criticisms are coming from.

We saw guys like Vinny sit in the playoffs cause he struggled moving the puck. But I bet if you look at their in-zone defence you'd get the impression that he's the better "defender" than EK65. I think alot of these guys like Risto, Murphy, that are on the market are going to bring Ceci-like contributions to this team. But we need better than Ceci. If EK65 was on the block for $5M and we can make the money work, that'd be a steal.

Somewhere on Uranus
FYI

There are a few pump and dumps going on right now. A few player mentioned in trade rumours have been bumped up to play with a teams best players or only being played in idea situations to help their normal stats and their advance stats

Good. Canada doesn't want him. Primadonna headhunting bitch.

And he blows.
At one time I thought Trouba would be a good add, but after the season has progressed, that isn’t what this D brigade needs. He also has soured many because of his (rightfully earned) firm NMC stance. I don’t blame him for that , it’s his right. But forcing him into a lineup/market through ultimatum (which could happen as you get closer to the TDL if you sit him/ embarrass him and don’t think Dolan wouldn’t do it )wouldn’t be positive for the Oilers. You just end up with a grudge holding player. There are many other fish that are willing to come to Edmonton and play.

Fish elsewhere.

Very early on in his Peg days I liked him. Didn't follow him much after. I've heard nothing but complaints about him from NYR these past few years. Checked him out in detail in the playoffs, like iso-watched him. Couldn't believe how bad he was. He's horrible at hockey. There's a reason NYR wants to move on, tried to in the off-season and now is trying again as they take this slide.

Too old.

If they're trading one or the other, you take Zub all freaking day.

I mean sure Zub would be ideal but he's 1) on LTIR right now with a foot fracture 2) he's younger and signed for much longer which means the price will be a lot more. We're probably also not getting retention on a 3+ year deal so it limits our flexibility in future years.

Jensen is basically the 34 year old version and all we care about is him playing out those two years at a respectable level, which I definitely think he can do. Ek-Bouch/Nurse-Jensen/Kulak-Emberson is a solid group and then you have Stetcher as a #7 which is a huge luxury. I don't really see any holes in that d core.

Yes I watched him a lot in Peg too. He was good back then. Has regressed in NYR.

Is Jensen on the block? That does seem like a really good fit. We just need someone who is definitely a top 4 dman to play with Nurse. Kulak - Emberson would be an excellent 3rd pair.

I’d probably go crazy and take Karlsson for the right price, hopefully at least 50% retained. I love the player but I would lose sleep over this if I were the GM and actually traded for him. Super risky but also great potential.

Jensen was the “underwhelming” return for Chychrun. Chychrun is killing it with the Caps. Jensen, fortunately is getting good reviews outta Ottawa so they don’t have to feel completely fleeced.

I considered Jensen last year, thought he might shake loose. But that would be quite the move for Staois to cut loose his return on Chychrun so soon. Wouldn’t look good on him as a GM.
