There is a zero percent chance Columbus gives up jiricek for stetcher and Ryan. His value is much much higher than that.
This is my fault, but I didn't mean those would be the only assets going to Columbus. I just meant that we needed to send them at least one roster player to make the numbers work. I'd assume we would send them futures for the actual trade value

To me the sleeper target might be Artem Zub, mainly with the Staios link and how heavily he was involved with the Oilers picking Beau Akey when he was here. Could see a deal where he’s the center piece going back, and Zub is a guy who could have an Ekholm like impact. Perfect partner for Nurse imo.
I live in Ottawa, so I've seen a lot of Zub. He would be an awesome addition and would likely be a perfect partner for Nurse . However, he is heavily used and relied on by Ottawa. I see no scenario they would move him except for a crazy overpayment, which we are in no position to give. All the things that make him attractive to us (contract, skill level, handedness), make him invaluable to them.

Even if they were to trade him for some bizarre reason, they wouldn't want futures....which is all we have to offer them.

So weird. I am on NHL.COM and went to skater stats, then I went to filter by teams and they have these random ones after the NHL teams

Arizona Coyote still there
Brooklyn Americans
Cleveland Barons
Hamilton Tigers
Montreal Maroons
Montreal Wanderers
Philadelphia Quakers
St Louis Eagles

You can go look up their stats from way back

Lol what’s with the Brown obsession. He did fine last game.
No obsession, he's just a not an NHL player. This team went to game 7 of the Stanley Cup final, why are they running this kind of player out on their roster. This team should be better than this nonsense.

And I don't care about the opinion of guys who watch the AHL team too much and have a soft spot for just a terrible hockey player.

This guys probably doesn't make the decade of darkness teams, and this team is good.

Hes not a full time NHLer just like cags. He’s here to munch some minutes until we get healthy. I’m sure we will add another D by the playoffs so stetcher or something becomes the 7th.

I just don’t think it’s a big deal that he’s up for a few games if he holds his head above water. Throw a couple hits, punch a face.

His contract is wild though haha 3 years at 1 million only to be buried 90% of the time.

He switched up threads after getting embarrassed about being wrong about browns usage, and then moving the goal posts only to be wrong again

Brown has been fine in his role so far. I don't think he should be up here long term as that won't last, but spot duty with an edge isn't the worst thing in the world.

Night and day from his performance in the preseason tho, lol.

Look he's sucks at hockey and it's embarrassing that you guys need to defend and he gets ice time on this team, period. He got time after Ottawa quit, and he was sat in the previous game because he was f***ing useless.

He's bad at hockey and shouldn't be here, I don't know how much clearer I have to be. Having a standard for this team is fine, honestly.

He doesn't have "an edge" he has a "will fight"

He seems to clear net front ok too. Look, I'm not his cheerleader. Ideally, he isn't playing as he's clearly the 7th or 8th best defender available (Depending on your view of Dermott). But with us being depleted, he hasn't been quite as bad as I'd feared when they called him up. I wouldn't call that a ringing endorsement, lol. Just mild surprise he hasn't shit the bed completely for us yet.

No one is saying he’s great. He’s our number 8 d-man. He did exactly what was asked of him.

Oh no problem at all, after I posted I wondered if you meant that as just a part of the return. Hopefully it didnt come across as too snarky lol

I feel like the price for jiricek would be really steep, almost too steep... mortgaging more of the future when there isnt a lot of the pipeline worries me. But at the same time the push has to be now... tough call.

If he comes cheap I am less worried about term. STL 2nd to Columbus for Provorov 50% retained and then our 2026 4th to a third team for another 50% retention would mean we'd get to keep our better assets while still addressing a major need.

More term would be ideal sure, but if this is our big move on D it would be an "alright" move in my books. Flip our 3rd this year to SJ for Blackwood @ 50% after that and we'd be cooking.
With Provorov you can only do 50% retention from one team. So the cheapest he can be had for is $2.38M.

From how Stauffer is talking, it sounds like he really is talking about Mike Matheson. He started talking about this AFTER we played Montreal and Matheson wasn’r really considered available before.

He’s talking about a player who would become available like Ekholm and have his impact

Known as one of the biggest "winning culture" organizations in the NHL for over a decade.
Their top 2 centers retire and everyone writes them off. They follow that up with a playoff birth when nobody had them winning.
They follow that up w/ the best team in regular season NHL history.

I think you're confused here
Yeah how did that amazing regular season end, by the way. They've won one more Cup than we have in the last 30 years.

I mean I see lukewarm defense of him because of your overly heated disgust at the fact that we play him. Without Kane and Nurse the only other person who provides some physical pushback somewhat regularly is Old Man Perry.

Whether you like it or not we do need someone who can provide some toughness and he hasn’t completely shit the bed.

He wouldn’t be up if Nurse wasn’t injured. He is behind Stecher and Dermott, so that makes him our number 8. It’s not like we’re relying on him to be a number one d man.

They uploaded all their stats a few years ago to the best they could

LOL. MM wont have the same impact as Ekholm--Ekholm can play in his own zone. We already have Bouchard doing the same role
