This whole thing feels incredibly legally dubious and likely to collapse on itself without warning. It reminds me of a sort of jailbroken satellite receiver that my family shelled out for like 10-15 years ago that was able to get Dish signals without geo restrictions and Bell's satellite service in Canada and the full batch of PPV broadcasts without paying as well. It was great and I was able to watch Sharks games on FSN Bay Area or whatever the channel was at the time (which meant local commercials too so I was able to get the stuff that became memeable here like Happy Pony or Steve the Doer) and then like 2 or 3 years in the security loophole that allowed the dishes to get the access codes was closed and they just became expensive bricks.

So assuming that's a good argument (which I think it is), the question becomes what is the breakeven point where the $400 you plunk down for the device balances out what you would have paid for subscription fees before you have to swallow your pride and go back to the previous model.
