Capfriendly is accurate. You have to send Shore down and there is your money for a player up to 1.7M with 50% retention.

Wow so hard right.
I dont get how this is hard to understand.

For example here is a list of players that with retention of up to 50% would be large upgrades on Shore and we could still run a 22 man roster. Mostly just highlighted the ones I like best or would be the biggest upgrades.

Ekholm is not just an upgrade on Barrie, it levels up Bouchard, Broberg, and Desharnais. And it takes hard minutes away from Nurse.
A guy like Ekholm makes everybody better, it's a chain effect. Ekholm's presence eases the workload for Nurse and Ceci (that's two), Ekholm makes Bouchard better by being his safety net on that pairing (that's three), Ekholm makes Kulak better because he can focus on a softer minutes pure 3rd pairing role (that's four) and Ekholm makes Broberg better because he's a Swedish (Viking?) Mentor.

He's not Chris Pronger or anything like that but he was the best available option on the market for the Oilers from a needs standpoint and his wife loves the cold and snow, what more could you want.

I mean you saw it even last game. When Bouchard and Ekholm role over the boards for the 2nd tough match up and Kulak gets to (basically) dominate the non-elite match up.

We knew a defenseman of this ilk would make a big difference, but I wonder if even those of us screaming for this upgrade are understating how impactful it might be.

I have always found that Flames fans and media are more concerned with the Oilers (and Edmonton for that matter) than we ever are with them ... take it as a compliment. We're living in their heads rent free.
I remember one specific friend of mine back in the day that said “he wouldn’t even want a guy like Taylor Hall on the flames” after me clearly listing a few flames at the time that I would have gladly had on the oilers.

Like fine you don’t like the Oilers but have the intelligence to recognize a good player.

Everytime the flames would beat the oilers I would get some stupid homer text. Just vitriolic garbage. And I never did that in return when the oilers won. You can be graceful in victory.

We drifted apart over time :)

Yeah pretty much this.

He isn't just moving the needle a bit over Barrie when he's on the ice, he improves the entire D deployment.

They can also straight up just trade Yams + for a more expensive player that is more of a shooter.

The biggest thing I noticed. Ek was communicating like crazy with Bouch all game. That’s exactly what he needs

Ekholm also helps the forwards too. He gives them confidence so they don't have to hang back

Listened to am 960 (Calgary sports talk) on my drive this morning hoping to hear some rumours and trades. I was shocked to hear the hosts spend 15-20 minutes of the show ripping on the Oilers, saying that Holland can’t even pay someone to take Foegs and Yamo, Ekholm was just an OK trade, Skinner is a ‘meh’ goalie, and they can’t see McDavid staying for more than 2 more years, etc.
I’m shocked, you never hear the guys on 630 or 1260 go after the Flames that hard. f***ing losers ruined my morning.

This is always how it has been, like forever. Flames fans worry and think about the Oilers a LOT for some reason, and Oilers fans hardly ever think about the Flames. I personally don't think about them anymore than I do any other team in the Pacific. I think its a result of them historically being on the wrong side of the ledger and therefore an inferiority complex being built up over the years. That is just a theory though. Honestly, who cares though, lol.

Something that Lowetide brought up.

If we're done, the Devin Shore yoyo at $850k doesn't afford room to bring Lavoie ($870k) up for a cup of coffee. His play has put him in the cup of coffee conversation, and he's waiver eligible so it'd be useful to have an idea before training camp in September. As it stands, looks like it will take an injury situation for Lavoie to potentially get a look.

I hate the divealanche much more than I hate the flames. And I’ve been an oilers fan living in Calgary for most of my life hearing bullshit year in and year out. I actually might even dislike toronto and Vancouver more than Calgary lol…

Hmmmm....

Greenway for Yamamoto? Would that make us better or worse?
Complete opposites.
Huge and disinterested vs. Small and engaged.
Could run a giant line with him and Bjudstad. But given the extra year, I'd stay with Yamo.

Would be amazing though lol

I would be willing to trade almost anything in the future to swap Campbell for Saros, lol. I would trade the 24, 25, and 26 1st rounders without thinking twice as an example. Of course Nashville would never do this, but man o man. We'd instantly become the cup faves I think. Holland wouldn't be doing his job if he at least didn't TRY and see what would be possible. One of the best goalies in the league (4th in league over last 3 years in save%), on a sweetheart deal. Again, just dreaming here, this is very obviously not going to happen.
