Holland likes his veterans he did signings like this in Detroit, Oilers don't need tweeners like Comtois the 3 Oilers on PTO have 2140 games of experience in the NHL all 34 and younger, that is his plan plain and simple a roster full of veterans mixed with some up and coming youth

Maybe, I think it's more they'll have to float young guys in the mix, but having some NHL veterans to take spots if those guys struggle gives the team more options.

It's interesting, but hardly unique, Carolina has like 5 or 6 PTOs, and they're all over the place.

Interesting what Carolina did in FA and what players are in PTO's.
They got exposed by Florida for a lack of grit.
Then instead of getting your traditional aggressive power forward type guys they got guys with a bit of grit and an assholey type attitude in Bunting and Lemieux.
Jayden small guy with hands and speed to burn gets his shot. Today these guys can be valuable in tweeners. In the seventies early eighties no one would spend the time and teach these guys.
They have Kieffer. Everyone one wants Brian's son to succeed. But he needs a full AHL season working on everything but scoring to try to get his overall game better.

It's interesting that Brandon Sutter... certainly not known for his offense... has 18 pts and is +3 in 50 playoff games... and Tatar has 13 pts and is -14 in 52 playoff games.

If Brandon Sutter is anywhere near what he used to be a few years ago... he's likely the more valuable player overall.
Tatar seems like a real good move for the Avs. With the chance of Landeskog coming back for the playoffs it won't really matter if Tatar fails come playoff time. He's a guy that is valuable in the regular season and that's what the Avs need right now.

Avs essentially have a bunch of darts thrown at a dart board with him, Drouin, and Johansen. They don't work then they look for more established help later in the season.

Also is there any update on Nichuskin?

Bunting was an interesting choice for them. He really wore out his welcome in TO. They never even offered him a contract. He seems to have a target on his back with the refs. Once that happens a player can really have a challenging time playing his game. Coaches have little patience with guys who draw bad penalties.

Lol... or why not have both bust out?

I'm glad majority of the fans are wrong. He will become top 4 on the team. Quote me on this
Top 4 on this team maybe 4 years ago. I like Vinny D but one of the * for him this coming year is staying healthy and staying in the line up on a regular basis. He is good at what he does. But asking him to play 20+ minutes a night every night might be a stretch.

He gave Larsson two offers. One was a five year deal in the high 3's and the other was the identical deal the Kraken gave him. I'm just baffled how one iota of blame can be placed on Holland when Larsson decided he needed a fresh start away from the Oilers. It's like a guy proposing a long term commitment to a girl but she decides she doesn't want to be in that relationship any longer and wants to move on in another city. Then the guy is blamed for her refusing the proposal because her heart and mind are elsewhere.

Ken has done some good things and not so good things. Losing Larsson because his heart and mind were not committed to the city of Edmonton and the Oilers is something Kenny can't be blamed for. Here's some quotes from Larsson.

Right from Larsson's mouth:

“I loved my time there. The guys, I made some lifelong friends there,” he said. “Even the negotiations… What Kenny (GM Holland) offered, it was really good. This was not about (money). It was about family.

“I just wanted to make the right decision. It had nothing to do with money."

What if close friend Oscar Klefbom, whose shoulder injury has jeopardized his career, had still been an active player in Edmonton? Would that have made the decision to leave more difficult?

“It’s tough to say,” Larsson allowed. “We all missed Klef when he was gone — he was such a big factor on the ice. And a great friend to me, coming into the team.

“But that thing still happened. It would have been tough (to return). The same memories would apply.”

If you want to blame Ken for something, then where he failed was letting him walk for nothing. This wasn't an 11th hour walkout, like Gaudreau did to Calgary. I'm sure Larsson let him know in advance he wasn't coming back so he could have gotten something for him, even if it was a lower pick for his rights. But the caveat was Seattle had a negotiating window and any UFA they plucked was considered their expansion pick, so instead of losing two players to them, it was one.
Yeah but what does Larsson know about what Larsson wants. Kenny should have negotiated harder by locking him in a room with no food or water until he signed on the dotted line. Kenny failed and that's that.

yeah why have players with fresh set of legs when you can have broken players well into their 30's whose wheels have fallen off

Soon be someone else negotiating anyways. When does Ken hand over the keys to the empire? After the deadline?

Wasn't a lack of grit.

The problem is the Hurricanes don't have game breaking offensive talent, and rely on "score by committee" which doesn't work when a goalie is playing that well.

All 4 games were 1-goal games.
All 4 games Bob was the 1st or 2nd star.

Game 1 - 63 saves .969% - 2nd Star (Tkchuk with 1st star for OT winner)
Game 2 - 37 Saves .974% - 1st Star
Game 3 - 32 saves 1.00% - 1st star
Game 4 - 36 Saves .923% - 2nd star (Tkachuk with OT winner)

Vegas lit him up the Panthers for 26 goals in 5 games.

We don't have to "add grit" to beat teams like Florida.
McDavid and Drai would light him up like a Christmas tree.

The biggest challenges for us are Jersey, Rangers, Vegas and Colorado IMHO.
There might be off-years when teams don't perform, or another rises to become elite, but Carolina doesn't have the gamebreakers needed to go all the way.

I'm not sure they ever get out of the East, let alone win the cup.

!) Zito will reconfigure.
2) Carolina didn't have enough scoring. Needed a gunslinger.
3) Some of the scoring for the Hurricanes hurt going into the playoffs
4) They needed someone the stop the rat and that other guy from running around -- Chucker is good at finding open ice and can skate with the puck. He needed a big guy that can skate to hammer him really hard. Carolina does not have that guy. Vegas has 7 of those guys.(and trying to add one more in Comtois though i suspect the decision has been made on the 8).
5) If we stay as we are we might not even see Vegas.

The one criticism I have with Holland's offseason is that I think he needed to make a difficult decision to clear up more cap space. I think at least one Foegele, Kulak or Ceci should of been moved.

Time will tell, how things play out. Holland can always move pieces at the trade deadline to create more space. But I just wish he was a bit more proactive, it always feels like he does the bare minimum managing the cap to get out of todays problems and kicks the can down the road. I think some patience is required and I do think trades are very hard to make these days (we didnt see much activity in the offseason). But yeah ... I would like to see more.
I haven't been follow much of nhl outside of the big news but I don't recall any cap dumps over the summer. It's just not that common and to expect Kenny to run out and dump a bunch of cap when nobody is really buying cap would cost the team big assets or we would just be getting that same cap back but in a different player.

The Canes lost an entire first line to injury. That’s why they fizzled out.

No man I meant Broberg lol not Vinny. I think Broberg will be a top 4 defensive Dman in the mould of Larsson but more of a positional Dman who has great speed to stop players and a little bit of offensive upside. That's kind of what we need on our back end. We have enough offence in Nurse and Bouchard. Even Ekholm gives a lot of offence
