I'm with you, I think he is one of the strongest value additions we can make, AFP has his caphit projected at $2.17M and has a solid track record of not only production with limited minutes, but also elevating the play of those he plays with. I think he makes our 4th line substantially stronger, posted a 60% GF% at 5 on 5 last season which is kind of crazy, I'd be very happy with a 55 GF% at 5 on 5 from our 4th line and toss in he's a good mentor for Samanski, who also fits his style of play.

I think they could've been much farther ahead just giving Carlson $10m and giving Levshunov a bit of a buffer. It was a trade that reeked of desperation. From Buffalo's POV, it was a no-brainer. But like I said, I don't see how they don't take an immediate step back.

But again, Mantha doesn’t play the games. Also, his PPG is artificially inflated by what was a clear outlier season that’s 30% higher than his best year otherwise. Why should we pay out the nose for that?



DeBrusk has the 94th most ES goals since entering the league, ahead of Lehkonen, Seguin, Terry and yes Mantha. There 180 top six forwards in the league at any given time so he’s firmly middle of the pack.



“Quality of minutes” is not really a thing when the player is firmly in top six territory compared to his peers as shown with ESG. You are sounding like one of those scouts in the Moneyball movie who don’t like how much someone weighs or what their girlfriend looks like. He gets results consistently- way more consistently than Mantha- and does it at what is a reasonable cap hit for this market.



DeBrusk had more hits than Mantha last year, so if he isn’t “putting himself in a position” to be injured, what’s the other guy doing?



This is the most bizarre argument I’ve ever seen on this board. So McDavid would be a better player if he missed more games because it would let guys from the minors get ice time? What?

There is no emotion here for me, I just don't want to add an overpaid player, yet some would cause they like the story of having another Debrusk in Edmonton, they prioritize emotion over unbiased player evaluation and analytics. Like I would love to add Will Horcoff and it has nothing to do with his last name or who his father is, I believe in the player.

Its a fact that many of Mantha's best seasons were cut short by injury, this being the first season where when he was both running hot & played a full season, but in terms of points per game he has had 1 season better than this and 1 season close to this and at the end of the day his career points per game is still better than Debrusk.

I think the only argument that needs to be made is in the past 3 seasons Debrusk has not contributed at 5 on 5 like a top 6 player, he is clearly well below that. Frigging Mangiapane's 5 on 5 points per 60 over the last 3 seasons completely blows Debrusk out of the water. No sane person wants to pay $5.5M forwhat is supposed to be an offensive forward who just put up a 0.9 Points/per 60 last season (at 5 on 5) and to make it even worse he's signed for 5 frigging years.

I feel like I'm the guy saying hey lets avoid a train wreck and you're here wearing a conductor hat going "Choo-Choo!".

The only way in hell I get with in 50 feet of taking Debrusk is if they are taking back Frederic. I've pondered if I would even do Nurse 1 for 1 for him and the ultimate answer is no, let alone trading a 2nd and 3rd rd pick for Debrusk and a 5th rd pick as you suggested earlier.

Another cheap value option I could see is Mike Reilly platooning the 3LD with Stastney.

Pretty obvious speculation about how the Oilers might navigate a Nurse trade. Team needs a 3LD and forward scoring support. The 3LD can be found with cheap options. A scoring forward is going to cost more. So imagine that as a 70/30 hypothetical split of Nurse cap space.

Two of the speculated trade destinations have extra scoring forward(s). They also have decent 3LD if a bigger deal is considered. Oil moving a 2LD Nurse to fit a top six scoring winger is basis for a good hockey deal with respective partners dealing from positional strength (though the Oil aren't deep enough at D).

I highly doubt LA is realistically in the mix. Imagine the org would like to expand to get San Jose in the mix.

Where do you see Howard fitting in?

I've been picturing him similar to Savoie last year where he goes up and down between the 2nd and 3rd line.

That's a broad picture thing, I'm sure there is room for exceptions. It also sounded like Babs and Smith were going to sit down and watch videos all summer and only plan to truly finalize a system 1 month before camp.

It could definitely be coming. I imagine they’re hoping for continued growth from their younger players to make up the gap lost on Tuch. They also very well may trade that #4 for someone they feel fits their team better than Byram did.

I was browsing their WOWY numbers and I think after Dahlin there might not be a more important player on BUF than Tuch. Just looking at players GF% with and without him was quite impressive, you can see why a team is willing to step up and offer $10.5M despite his offense not being at a superstar level.

Agreed. Playing damn good in the AHL is a hell of a lot different than being good in junior against boys.
