Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | If Babcock is Our New Coach Will Players Want to Come Here?

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Lets have a quick peek at Philly C.

Zegra (yes i know a bit of a puck hog)
Couts (yes probably not a top 2 anymore but good for 3C)
Jeff Lucky (not quite there yet but defenitely in the traces.
Barkey ( started really slow but kept improving)
Jack Berglund (already high end defensive forward likely comes across next year.)

The center position on the flyers ....yes not there yet but boy some higher end guys climbing the boards.
That was Nursery and Flash.

Zegars- not a C, we want him to be but he rarely plays there and Toch flip flops. He also ALWAYS gets subbed out on draws, so no, not a true C. Also, he's not a puck hog. He's excellent at entries and TK sucks at them and Turbo is too dumb to be consistent
- Dvorak- currently their #1 C, despite logic
- Cates- 3C who sometimes plays 2 and Toch loves him
-Coots 4C, heavily declining but stepped up in playoffs but yes a 4C

Also, if you listened to Brieres presser about upcoming players like Martone and Nesbitt, you'd know he really values Cates and his ability to move up and down the line up in the interim

So again, they aren't trading Cates if you know the team

Has anyone heard any hearsay regarding The Worm? Would love to have him back.
If they run McDrai, im warming up to this. You dont really need to worry about his boots when McDrai will be controlling the puck the entire time, and it leaves Hyman to play with Nuge to make a decent 2nd line.

I prefer to run seperate lines for our 2 stars, but if they decide to go the other way, I dont mind Perry as a skilled player to take some minutes with them.

If this team ends up dumping Nurse just to take back a bad contract, a redundant player (Ristolainen) or retaining significant salary then they should just keep him. Then they have to hope he has an ok season under Babcock/Smith and they will be able to trade him to 21 teams next summer.

The point of dumping Nurse before the 10 team NTC kicks in next summer is to improve the team THIS summer. If they do any of the above they won't be able to do that unless they dump other useless salary like Frederic and Jarry.

He requested a trade. Don't get me wrong I agree if they can't get any solid assets for him they should keep him.

But I can't imagine that toxic of a situation would ever turn out in him producing solid numbers this season. He's already sick of media/fans roasting him, imagine if he had to come back, played poorly, all while wanting out?

Nightmare situation. I'd imagine what happens is he expands his team list until a deal can get done.

Very interesting.

What's funny is I stopped listening after he has Shannon on and went to break.

He specifically kept the show long to read to a Darnell nurse trade text from a listener. He did say no guarantee of a trade but he did say that it would be a nurse trade without retention for a 7M forward.

Thats interesting to me because of the way he worded it. It was "get back" a 7M forward. So im not sure if hes implying just one trade and not two separate ones. IMO, it kind of rules out Boeser and guys like that because you wouldnt trade Nurse for them. You would trade nurse to clear space.

Having said that trading Nurse for Seeler and Boeser makes sense.

Still, if you look at the 3 rumored teams that would be Fiala at 7.88, Byfield at 6.25,. Rust and Rakell are reaches in the 5's. Philadelphia would have to be Couturier at 7.75 or Tippett at 6.25.

Holland is dumb but hes not trading us Fiala or Byfield. Rust and Rakkell are making too little. Couturier doesnt make sense unless they somehow see him as a 2C and move Draisaitl to the wing? (Please god no). So Tippett is the only one thats close but hes still a 6.

I think the guy might be Alexis Lafreniere from NYR. Hes 7.45 and isnt far from Pittsburgh or Philadelphia. Another option might be Mason MacTavish from Anaheim who makes 7M but hes worth more than nurse. Both guys might be considered distressed assets.

Peterka would also be unreal if hes willing to go to Utah. Hes making 7.7.

That's why I'm thinking Granlund from Anaheim. They probably weren't expecting Sennecke to be this good this fast. They also need to pay Carlsson and Gauthier and their only signed dman is Lacombe.

Granlund would fit as our 2C if Draisaitl plays with McDavid.

The preference is obviously to trade him but not at the detriment of the team. If there's no good trade then suck it up. I don't blame him for asking for a trade either. The team wanted him to waive last year and when that news leaked there's no coming back.

If he ended up staying then playing better would alleviate a lot of the toxicity which has already existed since he signed the contract.

Would be an optimal situation yes. I would rather have Nurse playing at the top of his game here than somewhere else. But we haven't seen top level Darnell Nurse for a long time. Glimpses, but never consistent.

I kind of lay this at the feet of the horrendous structure of these deals. If a player asks for a trade, their NMC should be voided. Once they open that door, it should be wide open.

DID NOT request a trade. Was asked to help facilitate one. He's being forced out

Difference being he's not jumping off a sinking ship, he's the one helping sink it.
Quit the Difference

Last year he was asked to help facilitate and he said no. This year he himself asked for the trade.

Lol. Vinny Lecalvier was asked to get the F out. He refused. Was put in minors. Held out.

Finally agreed to trade.

Does that mean he asked for a trade?

Management urged Nurse to move on. That's the skinny. All he's trying to do now is control where he goes with his family

Key word in your article being....agrees

Well i haven;t listened to the presser ...you obviously know the team better than I do.....your probably right,

You know i think Briere would do well to hire Jonny Toews ...tonight ....as a development coach with a focus on centres.

18:20 of today’s 100% Hockey podcast:

“(Unintelligible Brian Burke noises)… never took anything for granted… (continued unintelligible Brian Burke noises)”

NO MAN. Oilers Now BOB STAUFFERS SHOW. Listen at the 18:20 mark of the segment with John Shannon. It's not that hard

I know the Sabres committed grand larceny in the Byram trade, but how are they not gonna take a big step backwards next season?

How can you have faith in that? It got reported we asked him to waive his NMC last summer. He sulked and he stunk during the year. What makes anyone think he will be better this year?

It's too far gone. Plus, without moving his contract, we will not be able to make upgrades

Byram was pretty spectacular the 2nd half and was arguably their best D in playoffs. Did they?

Or did they steal a player who helps Bedard now?

It could definitely be coming. I imagine they’re hoping for continued growth from their younger players to make up the gap lost on Tuch. They also very well may trade that #4 for someone they feel fits their team better than Byram did.

So move him at any cost even if it means taking back a bad contract or retaining significant salary? Can't upgrade then.

What's the point in that lol. I dont think you're even reading what I'm writing.

I understand what you mean man lol but Nurse does have value. Look at what we saw Byram etc go for. Friedman etc said Nurse has more value than we think. The issue is his list.

I also think Nurse will be gone to Philly... It seems like they are waiting to do something else first

Tuch is pretty tough to replace though. He's pretty similar to Mark Stone.

I think he has value too, I'm just commenting on folks who think we will be retaining or have to take back a bad contract.

A bad trade is a bad trade and if it came to that the Oilers should just keep him.
