This is no surprise since he has been the ultimate me-first player since he signed that outrageous contract.

Also his dad seems to hate Babcock. Probably safe to assume Jake would too, or at least his dad might be in his ear.

I actually wouldn’t mind Debrusk but I’d want Vancouver to retain because I see him as a 2nd liner, maybe 3rd at times. Probably won’t be on the PP, just there to add some ES goals.

Babcock's good at getting young players to blossom under him, guys like Fippula, Hudler who aren't big took off in Detroit and had 20+ goal seasons. In Toronto, Hyman, Brown, Johnsson (another small guy), Kapanen all hit 20 goals early into their careers under Babcock.

Babcock plays a high tempo attack style that favors skilled players.

When Mikheyev arrived from the KHL, he was immediately used by Babcock on the PK because of his speed and work ethic. He is a player that can execute his system. He's a great forechecked because he wins races to pucks. NHL edge has him in the 95th percentile and a 45.2% defensive zone start.

Also worth noting that he is familiar with Dickinson as they played 472 minutes together with a 46.66 xGF% this year. They also played 411 minutes together the year prior.

He could even be a bit of a Hyman-lite. He has a relentless motor, great forechecker, retrieves pucks and coaches trust them. He's just not nearly as good in front of the net or along the boards.

If he was willing to sign a 3.5M contract I have time for that. Having 18-20 goals from a 3rd line would be a good get. He was 4th on chicago in scoring which is kind of crazy. I just don't think he would be a top 6 player here and shouldn't be expected to be in that role.

I know people will scoff, but Mikheyev-Dickinson-Frederic sounds like a potential 3rd line that could give teams fits on the cycle and forecheck.

Wilson pops to mind for me instantly. Caps just added two younger RWers who will play ahead of him. Maybe the Caps wanna get a little younger and add Nurse to their D?

I could see Wilson wanting that to happen too after playing with McDavid at the Olympics. I really liked that fit, it’s not perfect but he’d add a dimension that we really need more of.

Not necessarily, might be able to make it up with term. He's only 29, I wouldnt be opposed to a longer deal to drop the hit.
