Risto doesn't make much sense cap wise. And I don't really get the immediate lure of an upgrade on Emberson. Bouchard-Murphy-Emberson is a perfectly acceptable, cost-controlled right side. Every team has 6th D, can you name all of them without looking it up? He does his job - plays physical, takes hits to make the play, and has done some smart things with short passes in zone. His goal this season should be to improve on the PK and in front of his net, but that has been a team-wide failure. You need contributors for under 2M, and I think he is a prototypical 6D. Where you look for the upgrade/depth is potentially at trade deadline. Ristolainen leaves you with less cap flexibility in March and you're still missing a 3LD - easily the bigger need right now. Arguably 2LD with Ekholm showing signs of aging/quickness and Walman's injury history.

You just told me today that you can guarantee they're getting a good player back for Nurse. Why would you want Risto then? haha.

That's a quick turnaround from guaranteed good player to bad player that doesn't even help the team.

The Oilers are definitely in on Tuch, because they want to make a splash at forward and are never very creative.

That's an 8 figure contract if he's coming to Edmonton though. Difficult to make work unless Nurse is out of here almost for free.

That's the trick for sure. Tuch probably looking for a Kempe/Kempe-lite like deal, and most of the rumours about Nurse are saying "hockey trade" with limited teams as options which implies money coming back, whereas the priority should be getting the full 9.25M off the books I think. If we are really in on Tuch, hope it makes sense with the $. McMann contract may help slightly keeping the AAV at 7 figures?

For one he's way cheaper, second of all people are not understanding that it's an expiring contract and that would make it easy to move.

Philly would be doing Edmonton a huge favor if they did this, the Oilers would be stupid to turn that down.

You could net a full $9 million in cap space by turning around and trading Ristolanien in season without much fuss if you don't like him.
