The norm for that role is getting "stomped", even one of the best 3rd line C's we've had in franchise history in Todd Marchant was getting "stomped" by your definition. I think success for a role that has you eating more than 1/3rd of your time vs elites and starting 70%+ of your shifts in the d-zone, is around 43-45% GF%, try to keep the GA/60 around 2.5 or a little lower, and be a major positive contributor on the PK.

Also for the record I said $5M for Dickinson would be a big mistake and at $4M I get hesitant if that is the right decision, despite this being $1M below AFP contract projections and Dickinson definitely taking less to stay with us, he's basically sitting on my line in the sand for whether I'd sign him or not. My hope was $3.75M aav x 4 years, but I can swallow $4M aav x 5 years and cross my fingers that he'll age a little more gracefully than most since he hasn't been through many grueling playoff wars.

Todd Marchant was a 40 point outscoring C in the peak of the dead puck era. He was an actual elite defensive player, he had 3 straight seasons being top 10 in Selke voting. Jason Dickinson is a guy who is going to get outscored and will be lucky to touch 25 points in a scoring era that hasn't been this high in 30+ years. You can't even see Jason Dickinson in the rear view mirror of Todd Marchant as a player.
