Carolina does not belong, their only big get in recent memory was Ehlers and Rantanen (who wasn't willing to extend with them) and Marner blocked a trade to them, that is a franchise that is nibbling around the edges playing moneypuck, a series of small smart decisions in the name of driving puck possession and trying to translate that into goal differential.

FWIW I do think Brady Tkachuk is one of the leagues more overrated players on name brand value. He's way more Dustin Penner than he is Jarome Iginla.

Still super frustrating to watch our rivals consistently bring in real talent while we sit on our hands signing 20 point players to 5 year contracts.

That said I don't think either Tkatchuk will age that well. Don't see these guys being very good after 30

I don't think they are rebuilding, they made the playoffs 2 seasons in a row in a tough division, they were just stuck with disgruntled American who wanted out to play in the US

They have $7m in cap space with no goalie signed and about $80m of it is locked up with a NMC.

Now I fully expect Bobrovsky to re-sign there to a similar type deal that Marchand signed for, but they're an injury or two away from being in trouble.

It ain't happening dude, you can't keep up with moves like that. If we can get out of this summer without an embarrassing Mangiapane like blunder that will be a win in and of itself.

Our management is playing tick tack toe, these are groups are playing chess, we can't compete with that, two players can't win a Cup no matter how good they are, hockey ain't that sport.

I will actually not take next season for granted because I don't think there's much time left with a player of this caliber, I will be getting seats behind the Oilers bench for next season at some point, something I've always wanted to do but never got around to.

Got to enjoy it while it lasts, but I don't think we're seriously competing for a Cup in the same way these other teams are. Murphy and Dickinson ... like c'mon. That ain't getting it done.
