Babcock game plan uses speed and puck possession. Frederic is the exact opposite of this. Garbage player

Yup. You hear coaches talk about "5 man units" and I think Rielly would kill running with Leon's line. Probably a better fit than Walman, imo.

So this leaves us with a top six winger, a third line winger, a goalie (preferably a starter but at his salary, Jarry is going to get the chance to start), and possibly a veteran #5 defenseman. Ike Howard could fill one of the W spots, but if we do that, I expect Nuge keeps his 1LW spot and Howard gets to start on 3LW, and that's probably not a recipe for success.

I don't know how we find a top line winger (or top six) to play with McDavid, I don't expect any will really be left by the time free agency opens, and Tuch isn't coming to Canada I'm sure. There aren't many wingers on that list that aren't older than Jesus and/or simply not producing anymore. I wouldn't mind taking a shot on a guy like Bjorkstrand for the 3rd line.

That top 6 is not winning you a Stanley cup. That bottom 6 is not even playoff material and that defense makes you want to throw up.

That goaltending is AHL material


Babcock out here comparing the Detroit mofo Red Wings to these Oilers. Homie thinks if Drai and McDavid sacrifice thier ridiculous point totals for more defense will be the difference. Lol, these clowns thing the Oilers will somehow replace thier offense with more ice time for the turds Bowman has assembled everywhere else

Lol yo... the Oilers dont have Nic Lidstrom, those Red Wings teams had 8 Hall of Famers and Dominic Hasek in net most of those years.

They had Lidstrom, Rafalski, Chelios and Kronwall as thier top 4

They had the grind line, one of the most effective 3rd lines in hockey history.

I agree on the goaltending.

"That bottom six" that is still missing two third mine players is impossible to judge. It's Dickinson alone. The 4th line would be better if Frederic rebounds, but Dach and Samanski look like NHLers to me.

The defense is impossible to decide on at the moment. Until we know if Nurse is gone, and who our 3LD is, you're judging on another incomplete group.

That top six came pretty close to winning a cup. Only difference is Savoie in for Kapanen/Perry, and I think he's an upgrade. Could it be better? Yes. Will the opening day roster be the same as the playoff roster? No.

Also, the trades others are making are for 1st round picks. Teams are making their draft day deals. We don't have a 1st to deal with.

The sky isn't falling chicken little.

Thats a terrible lineup. Hideous. I like Savoie but he isnt Corey Perry in the playoffs. Not even close right now. Nowhere near the gamesmanship and size or the experience.

NO, Dach and Samanski are NOT regulars on a cup contending team. Not even close.

Trent Frederic has a 2 season sample including the playoffs to tell us who he is. Fn useless. No he wont rebound. There is nothing there to rebound from.

Theres only 8 guys I see here who should remain. The rest are a Hodge podge of trash collected by Bowman.

Its not wrong to call it like it is.

Babcock implementing the left wing lock with that bottom 6 and defense will be hillarious to watch live

Pagnotta had a podcast today where he said the following (summarized)

- the Nurse trade is going to be a hockey trade where the Oilers get back a piece they need. Either in bottom 6 or on D, not goaltending.
- there are two goaltenders on the trade market he has spoken to that would not block a trade to a Edmonton.

No idea who the goalies would be.

Why so fixated on one player ? And yes those guys are absolutely more experienced and impactful than Samanski in the playoffs. Its the sum of the parts. Thats a horrible bottom 6. We need at least bare minimum 3 Impactful bottom 6 players who have playoff pedigree. You arent winning shit with what we have. You need championship pedigree win championships. Guaranteed.
 
Marchenko and Podkolzin played together in the KHL. I wonder if he would have interest in signing a long term deal here. If the team was all in on a guy like Rantanen a year ago at the deadline, this is the kind of swing they should be looking at. He barely impacts our cap this year and would be well worth a 10M deal long term.

I'm offering Howard, 1st round picks, Akey whatever it takes to get him in.

Podkolzin - Draisaitl - Marchenko would be a difference making 2nd line.

I like that line.. just Marchenko has 0 playoff experience.

I was responding to your point that Samanski can't be a regular on a contending team. I don't think that's true. I agree we need to upgrade the bottom 6 but I think even adding 1 impact player would make a big difference.

Your playing Florida and they throw out Marchand, Lundell, Loustarinen In the finals And the Oilers counter with Dickinson, and a bunch of has beens or never was ..... castoffs Dachs, Samanskis, etc... it will be a mofo sweep. Oiler fans need to look at the lineup objectively. Not with rose coloured glasses.
