Give me Binnington all things considered equal. I think that Gibson is an upgrade on Stu, but Binnington I think is the guy that will drag our team into battle.
I don’t think him or the Czech kid in Utah are available. Flames and Canucks keeping crapping on the ice keeping those teams in the mix.

If you are saying that Gibson could be an improvement on Skinner then sure...I could believe that.
He is only 31 years old too which isnt that old for a goalie.

@TopShelfGloveSide was making a cliam about elite goaltending though and his supporting argument just doesnt wash.

We just need a goalie upgrade. That's as plainly as I'll put it for our goaltending. Can't go far with our current tandem.

Call me a disgruntled fan, but I'm tired of having to hear the reasons every year like don't have assets, dollar in dollar out, etc on why this team can never pull off good trades and going for the bare minimum.

At least with Holland, the 'dollar in dollar out' was partially the mess that Chiarelli left behind, and some mistakes made over years. Now it's all JJ & Bowman's f***ups in one off-season / season that left them cap strapped.

Roster misuse from genius Knobhead exacerbating the issues as well

It’s the reality of our situation. We have next to no prospects and not a lot of picks to deal. We can realistically make one big move and maybe another one or two small ones. If you go for Gibson that is your big move. Better hope stecher or Klingberg can handle top 4 mins when we get into the later rounds.

There will likely be no later rounds without a goaltending change.

I'll say Good GM's find a way. I look at Bill Zito or Kelly McCrimmon as two prime examples.
We have McDavid and Draisaitl. There has to be a higher expectation for management when they have two of the best players in the world on the roster. It's the final season where our best players are on luxury bargain contracts until the big $$$ contracts start arriving.

I’m just saying you’re not getting Gibson at 50% + a top 4 D plus a top 6 guy. You’re getting one of those things and a depth move. If you believe that Gibson is that move then I respect that.

I’m not on that ship yet. This is the same tandem as last year so we have real world evidence that isn’t the case.

Stu Skinner cost them in the 2nd round vs Vegas the year prior, after Campbell bailed him out in the first round

Last playoffs, he nearly cost them vs the Canucks (also in the 2nd round...not very deep) until Pickard bailed him out.

Decent against LA last year (credit especially for the one shut out, but poor in the loss), great vs Dallas, and mediocre vs the Panthers

Not a great body of work, IMO

I'll just say good gms always find a way and leave it at that.
I have no idea why you bothered posting saying "age" after what I already posted in regards to that.
He's 31. Big deal.

Oh I got it...you just arent supporting what you are putting down.

EDIT: @TopShelfGloveSide just saw your latest meme.
So you have walked back your position which was good judgement.

I think that Gibson could be better than Skinner too.
If they can get a significant retention then I could support that move.
If we can agree on that much then we’re really arguing about nothing lol

If they could somehow swing a deal for Gibson (with significant retention) and keep Skinner then I would be fine with that.

I am on an island with this but I would like to see how Skinner does next season at a weight of about 215 lbs instead of 230 lbs. I posted about that last season as well but I just think that it would really improve his side to side movement and make him a more athletic goalie.

Having a solid starter in place for a year or 2 would also help him mentally IMO. I dont like to see this team cut bait on drafted players after a couple of years. Especially in this situration where I am quite sure that the Campbell fiasco pushed Skinner into the starting role too fast.

Then he'll fit right in
A 36 years old Marchand is okay for some posters but a 31 year old Gibson is too scary.

Batter body of work than just about every other goalie in the league last year. Clearly good enough. IMO if we had knobloch coaching in 2023 he switches to Campbell we win that series and maybe the cup. Fact of the matter is these two guys got us to gave 7 of the finals less than a year ago.

I don’t get too high or low in the regular season anymore. It means nothing. All that matters is what happens in April on. That’s what defines the success of failure of the season. Stu could have the worst season ever and if he gets it done in the playoffs no one will ever talk about out it again.

With his season so far, I have no confidence whatsoever in him getting it done in the playoffs. The fact that Pickard had to save us in the nucks series last season shows more to me that Skinner can't be the #1 guy to win this team a cup. Especially with his fat ass lateral movement this season, the best players on other teams in the playoffs will feast on him again. It would be an absolutely travesty to trust Skinner with how he's been leaking weak goals consistently.
