Im sure Barrie and Schultz would love to come here but we have the same problem now as we did when they each left… theres no defensive specialist and no size on the bottom 4 RD. If Bouchard is your #1RD, you need defensive/PK coverage so he can excel in the minutes he’s best suited for.

Somebody has to shut down elites in the dying minutes and close out a cup win. Everyone needs to remember, that as fond as we all are of Stuart Skinner, he is NO Dominik Hasek. We are saving money in net to spend up front, that does NOT work if you don’t have solid defensive specialists. Do not tempt fate, do not repeat the mistakes of the past. Fix this shit.

Start of the Kemp dynasty.

I think he’ll get 15-20 games and make the team full-time next year.
of the d in the pipelinei think wanner has a better chance based off what the team needs. hes not as big as desharnais but he is abetter skater and plays solid D

I would prefer Schultz over Barrie. But, honestly, trade is the best way forward. We have the assets to acquire a top 4 Dman. The only problem is having the other team agree to the trade

That’s usually the hang up isn’t it.

We also don’t have cap space to add a top 4 D-man now.

The best version of Darnell Nurse played with Tyson Barrie.

The most important thing a partner for Nurse needs to have is puck retrieval. They need to be quick back. If Barrie isn't a much slower player than he used to be, he's probably a big upgrade on Ceci for Nurse.

So this was brought up on the gregor less gregor show yesterday.

Haley literally asked who. Doesn't sound like there is a whole lot of pending UFA options that make a pile of sense.

We might have to take a LD or look for another Ekholm situation where we are going after a guy with term
For RHD UFAs it is extraordinarily limited. Maybe David Savard? Adam Larsson? The corpse of Jeff Petry…

The Oilers will need to get closer to the trade deadline before adding anything. Gotta accrue some cap space, then grab a 2nd pairing RHD and a right handed 4C for a playoff run. David Savard and Nic Dowd are the rentals I think would be good fits at this time. Maybe Savoie is another piece who could step in at that point.

Skinner McDavid Hyman
RNH Drai Arvidsson
Kane Henrique Savoie
Janmark Dowd Brown
Podkolzin/Perry/Ryan

Ekholm Bouchard
Nurse Savard
Kulak Emberson/Stetcher/Brown

That's a deep roster ready for another playoff run IMO.

Barrie has experince playing with Nurse and they did alright playing as the top pairing. With Ek and Bouch, they'd take on a lesser role as the 2nd pairing. It may work as long as Barrie takes a cheap contract. He was very well liked in the room.

I mean maybe someone can talk to Larsson if Seattle is out and see if he'd be willing to come back for a playoff run, but I just don't know

Either way it's really limited

There's more options down the line if you broaden your horizon and the 2026 1st + 2nd 2025 gets put on the table.

Oleksiask
Larsson
Chychrun
Jensen
Erik Karlsson @ salary retained
TJ Brodie
Ivan Provorov
Cam Fowler

Maybe even like an Artem Zub if Ottawa flames out again.

You can also just bring back Cody Ceci for likely not a lot, to get salary retention will probably require a 3rd team but it will be a low amount of money to retain.

If we can tread water with this D until TDL won't we have like 10M in accrued cap space? Sure we can use some of that to pick up a Larsson equivalent and even broker some deals and get some picks back for 2025.

And I'm actually pretty bullish on Stetcher as long as we're in the regular season.

They would have about 4.5 mill based on the current amount, now if you factor in a trading team retaining salary on top of that, that can become as high as 8.8-9 million effectively.

His best version was when he played most of his minutes with McDavid and the worst(this playoffs) was when he played 10% of his ice time with McDavid.

The second line actually having some NHL wingers should improve the second pairing.

I hope that we have an offer out with Lindstrom's agent, and they are just waiting to see if someone offers more money. There is no need for them to rush to sign, since our only options are him or someone that we PTO.

I imagine all offers are coming around the same price roughly. He just needs to make up his mind where he wants to play.

I think Nurse has a bounce back year.

It can’t get any worse, can it?

It needs to be a major focus for our coaching staff. He’s not that far removed from a top 10 Norris finish. If he can bounce back to that low end #1 dman that he was playing like for a few years, while only having to play second pairing this season, he can easily carry a weaker partner for half a year until we can upgrade. He just can’t repeat last year’s weak performance if we want to win the cup

Thet fact that Nurse was a top pairing D on this team just speaks to how brutal the defence on this team was back then.

GMChevy with another solid recovery from a player that doesn't want to play in Winnipeg. Took his time and didn't blink with panic deal to get comparable pedigree back though a wildly different play style and physical attributes.

Trend of young players asserting their leverage to seek their destination continues. Jager's a good Sasky boy so I'll root for his success.
