That would require trading away a roster player- and players said they want their friends to stay
Well,,,retention certainly makes a lot of things possible but perhaps this team will play better in the playoffs if they are a bit pssed off because they lost a freind.

Truthfully I think the forward group is fine. They can't go into the playoffs with the same d-core that skunked them last year. Especially with the same goalie that collapsed last year in the playoffs.
Thats fair.
I would like to see a shooter in the top 6 though.

I think a shooter would be nice. But I also think that Henrique can be that guy.

How much better is Henrique than Bjugstad?

He scores a bit more, but he’s smaller and older… not sure how their defensive games match up?

Hopefully Henrique has a bigger impact in the playoffs.

Meanwhile, in reality, the Oilers have three guys who had 100 points last season, a guy on pace for over fifty goals, and a defender on pace for 82 points. And we just added Henrique. Our offense is fine.

Our urgent need is on the second defensive pairing.

It's hard to say what we can do there. People have fantasies like Parayko but it's not happening. We had the best offer for Tanev. That put us out on Hanifin too. Lots of experts feel Walker is no better than Ceci.

I do agree that the D upgrade is the most pressing but the deal might not be there. If it is, I believe Holland will find it. He's done it with Ekholm.

What we don't want to do is force a move that seems "close enough". That's how we got wrapped up in Campbell.

Seravelli said it though. Whatever major move we'd make now means good players leaving to make cap room, so the upgrades start out eroded. Henrique fit perfectly because it was more than an upgrade. He's filled a hole.

Okay then.

I like Henrique and I know that there are a few posters who scoff at the idea that he can play in the top 6 (at least part time) but he is a solid player at both ends of the ice.
I'm surprised by those who don't think Henrique can play in the top 6. He's on pace for nearly 60 points this season. He feels like he'd be a great fit as a 2nd line LW with Drai.

Seravelli is wrong. The Oilers could fit a ~$6M player with double retention just by sending down Holloway. Obviously a guy like Parayko would be different.

And no excuses for Holland. He's had since last season ended to address the d-core. The deals are out there. Other teams make it happen all the time. Hell, Holland made it happen last year. He has to do it again. If he doesn't, he's failed yet again.

The same team that continues to play Nurse-Ceci together after seeing the last 2 playoffs?

Tell that to the poster who thinks VGK doesn't want to play us.
Ceci and Nurse still together after we feasted upon them last season? Feasting again this playoffs - Eichel, Marcheassault, Stone, Barbashev, etc.

I love the Oilers, but man we have some really, really stupid fans, especially considering that our winning streak was ended by a Vegas team missing Theodore and Eichel.

I don't see how you can say Holland has failed when he's been one of the most aggressive GMs and he did have hits like Ekholm. I don't see other teams getting more wins there.

I still want another Dman. I don't want just any Dman though just to make a deal. I really don't think Walker would have done much. I don't think there are Ekholm deals out there that would happen if only Holland wasn't lazy

I mean it's pretty easy to see how isn't it?

The Oilers lost in the 2nd round last year and right now are entering the playoffs with the exact same issues on the backend and in net that was the predominant reason for them losing.

2nd round exits are a failure. 3rd round exits are a failure. 4th round exits without a cup are a failure.

The only thing that is a success is a cup win. That is literally it.

By then they'll have won 3 cups with rosters 100M over the cap and 12 players on LTIR, what do they care?
Well that’s probably true but what happens when eventually the loop hole is closed and no one wants to sign long term without a full NMC. They have pretty much drained the cupboards in all aspects and might become another ARZ.

The reason I doubt Parayko won't work is because he's still signed for another 6yrs after this season. I cannot see a team doing any sort of retention on that. The only way the Oil can make it work is if the Blues take Ceci + Foegele + Brown + Broberg + 1st + 2nd just to make the salary work and entice them to accept it. Lol

Adam Larsson would be my target but because of what happened to his pops here I doubt he'd accept. His salary and cost would be perfect.

It’s hard competing with Vegas, Florida and Tampa. They get cheaper trades because players want to play there. They get cheaper signings because of state income tax. The system is so tilted.
True but we were gifted two of the most gifted players in the league and our crappy Gms have done sfa with that.

Cup or bust. There's no participant trophy in this league, only lord Stanley.
