Parayko has been in trade speculation for year(s). This likely isn't a deal framework cooked up over days but quite possible one that's been discussed going back a season where Holland aggressively turned over every stone looking for top 4 D. He and Armstrong have a deep professional relationship. The St. Louis beat writer was on record last year stating a source confirmed Parayko would approve a trade to his hometown team.
The retention spots only have value if they are used. Having it leverage a $30 million+ cash and cap savings is arguably a great use that enables maximum flexibility to effectively retool away from an expensive, old d-corp with 5 no-trade contracts. This is a 12+ consortia ownership group maybe not unlike the old OEG where bottom line is part of the consideration. Lead owner is a lawyer, beer distributor. Only speculating their pockets aren't as deep as some of the real big money owned franchises...
Low likely for sure. But very solid foundation business wise and at state of their team in transition.
