One can recognize that all three parties (Tarasenko, Ottawa, and Florida) made a deal in their best interests AND "gripe" about the significant advantages certain teams like Florida have in a hard cap league.

Panthers have beaten the Oilers twice this year and just got better. Parayko on his own won't be enough.

The Oilers dominated the Jets in 19-20 regular season and got swept by them in the playoffs.

That's just one of many examples.

Lol.. I always try and tell people about the famous shock treatment episode, to those poor souks who've never experienced the magic of Cheers ! Lol
One of the classics, along with the monkey delivering the mail 👏
I have a Firestick and u can watch these classics 24/7. Cheers was unreal. Monkey was classic. The XMAS dinner was a good one as well. We were finally gonna get to see Vera and she got the pie in the face

Agreed - unlikely we get Parayko and anything else aside from scraps outside of double retention. Also unlikely we get Parayko at all.

But I don't think the restraint is Cap, but rather other resources. Keep in mind we 2.3 million in real cap space with 60/82=73% of that salary accrued already. Which by accrual equates to around 8 million in contracts we can absorb approximately. We can also increase that by whatever we can push off the roster. Hence why talks have been we can acquire 3-4 players.

But I do think Parayko alone is better than almost everything else on the market.
Parayko alone without any other additions pushes the needle as much as if not more than Ekholm did. It gives us two top pairing dmen and two second pair d men. Defence wins championships isn’t that what we have been told over and over for years?

Ceci and Foegel out would leave them with over 2 million to grab a Foegele replacement and another piece. Could still fit in two 6 million cap hits with 75% retention, or a couple 3m hits with 50% retention. Things are definitely possible this year with the accrued cap.
No it wouldnt?
Foegele and Ceci out and Parayko in leaves us with 492k but only 11 forwards and 6 defenders.
2 league minimum guys at the deadline would take all that space up.
For example Connor Browns league minimum contract is worth 162k at the deadline. thats with our acrued cap. I don't know how we can possibly add all those players too, you are doing your math very wrong on that.
RNHs contract is worth 1.1 at the cap so we couldn't squeeze in 2 6 mill guys at 75% retention let alone another guy

Panthers have beaten the Oilers twice this year and just got better. They have enough assets to add another impactful player. Parayko on his own won't be enough.

I'd be interested in seeing us play them when we're actually feeling it.

Both times we played them this year we were in the midst of one of our mini funks.

Agreed. The question is rather - can we afford him? And is St Louis willing to trade him.

If we send Ceci back they would need to retain around 1.5 mill on Parayko for us to not be at 0 cap space. That would mean them retaining for 6 years past this year. The cost of that alone would be astronomical.
So if the Oilers trade Holloway and Ceci in a deal for Parayko right now, if they also send Gagner to Bako, Parayko fits under the cap, no issue.

The Oilers end up with $171.981 on the cap according to Cap Geek.

This is at this full cap hit, no retention.

Okay, but we aren't going to get anything for retention, maybe a few hundred k at most. Retaining on a contract for 6 years would be a crazy expensive ask. Its a late 1st for 3m of retention on a player for a full year, just remember that.

Then, again, it's easier to lay down a quit.

I don't suppose they will, but $1M on an increasing cap is a replacement level player, they might be convinced for the right price.

I don’t see how Parayko is an option when defense doesn’t seem like a priority to the Oilers.
Well they did supposedly offer a first for Tanev

I am guessing they just don’t see a lot of substantial upgrades on Ceci out there

We were playing bad and blew a 2-0 lead to them and Tampa and that 2nd game Bob was haseking us that first lol

It would still be a close series

Yup. Then moving Foegele opens the door for som rental forwards

Okay. While we are at it. Lets trade for Crosby @ 50% retention and maybe snag Bedard.
If you say no, you are a quitter.
