Don't think the Karlsson deal is too close right now unfortunately... otherwise he'd be a healthy scratch tonight. Sharks wouldn't want to risk playing him if they thought a deal was close
Who knows, it could also be a power play from the sharks GM to let Holland know his initial offer wasn’t even worth consideration.

Seems like nobody has a clue what’s going on. I just hope we come out of this a better team.

I absolutely will post on the acquiring team's board! Also continue to post on Oil board.
I hope you do. I don't have any problem with your takes on Yamamoto. Their your opinions, you're entitled to them and it's a hockey forum at the end of the day. I was a strong advocate to punt RNH for a lot of years. I'm glad we didn't with the season he's having. If Jesse is the one to move on, I hope he still manages to carve out a NHL career.

How do you mean?
Like if trade fails, we will send them down to activate Yamamoto. By trade, I mean JP trade

Yamamoto is not good enough to play top 6 and not big enough to play bottom 6. Also frequently injured, that's what Yamamoto is. And yet so well liked by all the short-legged fans.
Teach JP to shoot a puck and then come back to ripping Yamamoto

I think the problem is we need to send multiple players down to activate Yamo. Sounds like Holloway and Desarnais will have to go down to fit Yamo cap wise. LOve me some Yamo, but also really liking Desairnais on the roster

Karlsson just made two excellent defensive plays. One from his own turnover, skated his balls off, partially broke up the pass.
Then just made a beautiful pickpocket play.

He can defense.
but is he as handsome as Desharnais?

He’s a mixed bag exactly like his stats show. That spinning back pass at the Vegas blue line was ridiculously bad but the pick pocket play on the next shift was nice. Just on for GA but wasn’t his fault at all.

Yes it is.

Correct me if I'm wrong but because we are over the cap from LTIR, our cap doesn't factor in percentage of season that has gone by.

Example. If we weren't and LTIR team, and we acquired a 6m player 2/3 into the season, they would only hit our cap as 2m. But since we are an LTIR team, we just look firmly at players AAV for the 82.5 cap hit. So acquiring that player would hit us at 6m.

But it also works the other way around. Losing JP means we get 3m off our cap worries.

Again please correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like that's how our cap situation works
Sorry above my pay grade.
I would think any team acquiring JP wouldn't get dinged with $3M though. I'm thinking Hollland doesn't want to just dump him. He's got value. Maybe not on this board but he does. Shit Yakapov got us a 3rd rounder. His salary was less but still.

I just saw Woody at a gas station and I didn't want to bother him but eventually worked up the nerve as he was finishing fueling and asked quickly, from a distance "what's the word on special K65?" and he winked and said "hold on to your tits" before he drove off into the night.

I get the sense something is occurring.

Oilers only have 1 regulation loss in the last 13 and they are still in a wild card spot... shows you the parity level in this league and how hard it is to gain ground.

The OIlers have created quite a lot of space for themselves in terms of being on the playoff cutline.

The day before the 9-1-3 streak over their last 13 games the Oilers were tied for the first wildcard spot, leading the 9th and 10th place teams by one and two points respectively. The Oilers were 11 points behind Vegas for first place in the division.

Today the Oilers in the first wildcard spot. The Oilers are five points ahead of the Wild and Flames who are tied for the final wildcard spot. The Oilers are two points behind the Kraken and Golden Knights, assuming Seattle doesn't blow a four goal lead. Vegas is tied in the third.

I hope Veags read the script tonight and will lose 2-1 so we stay 2 points behind and Karlsson with the game winner

Karlsson only played tonight so he wouldn’t skip a beat suiting up for the Oil tomorrow. Very thoughtful of him.

it's even more pathetic that Puljujarvi was all the physical tools to be an NHLer and still can't figure it out

ouch
If Puljujarvi's next NHL team manages to realize his potential, there will be a lot of "ouch" in Edmonton. Can't wait to see what happens in the trade front before next game

Best possible scenario would be Pulju clearing waivers, traded to Canes, sent to AHL to finish the season, learn a new role, get signed to a 1.5M show-me contract, and have an amazing next season in NHL.

And to be clear: Regardless of what happens to Pulju, I want the Oilers to win the cup this season. :stanley:

Desharnais better be sick as a dog because to me not gonna lie, he's become the most important of the Oiler "support" players. The Oilers D and goaltending immediately looked way more shaky with him out.

If we're sitting him to deal with the saga of less impactful players like Yamamoto and Puljujarvi ... ugh.
Wave Jesse, trade yamamoto for a 4th , 6 million in cap cleared. Can trade Ceci also, I think McCabe is an upgrade there. How hard is it...... like 9,5 million cleared.

Then make a trade for McCabe and a real defensive forward.

Thats an upgrade.

I think Oilers then have 4 rolling lines?
For my fun

Nurse McCabe/Desharnias
Broberg Bouchard
Kulak Barrie

Leon McDavid Hyman
Kane McLeod 2 way guy
Janmark Nuge Kostin
Fogele Ryan

Holloway to Bako and stays there until playoff

Cry all you want but this team's going to need warm bodies in the playoffs. And that means guys like Pulju even if they aren't playing well.

Unless Kenny can someshow trade him for a better player you're likely stuck with him. And he's more useful than a late draft pick at the end of the day. So I'm not going to whine like everyone else.

There is some good tools in Jesse.
But the problem is his style.
Oilers drafted him not for his hockeyhead, for his body, fitness and beliving that he was a poerforward, wich he will have a hard time translating to. He had becoming physichal now, but my brlive is that is something he has to focus on to be, not a natrual part of him.
But he learns. He should go to SHL to learn some new things, not Liiiga. ShL is almost as good as AHL and has good system and coaches, he would learn a lot.
And he needs to shot, get more used to finnish. He sometimes looks very stressed on oppurtunities. Work on his "go on the knee to shoot" like Draisaitl does. It gets easier to aim.

2h a day to practice shooting for doffrent positions, including one timers. Elias Pettersson did exactly that before coming to NHL. He should maybe give him a call. He seems intelligent and could learn him some.
