We all know there will eventually be a big MCU/DCEU crossover movie anyway. The potential money is too huge to ignore for them. They’ll put aside competition and just go for broke with a trilogy of crossover movies.

I think they're both gonna die off long before that happens.

The barrier to entry for the MCU is too high, and the movies are now all giant convoluted messes.

Pierre LeBrun says Carolina is interested even if he won't extend. Claude Lemieux hasn't even let Meier talk to teams.

I want to be involved because he could be the piece that puts us over the top. As of right now, Leon Draisaitl has had a rotation of guys on line two and nothing seems to fit long-term for him - and then we end up defaulting to throwing him with Connor in times of need. Meier could be the ticket to having an unstoppable top six this playoffs.

Nobody compares in my eyes to his impact potentially except MAYBE - Chychrun (not in on that), ROR (been quiet on that), and Karlsson (hard to do).

Patrick Kane - hip seems pretty injured, and his 5v5 numbers especially defensively are abysmal. I think he's only going to help a team needing PP help, which we don't.

Vladislav Gavrikov - not convinced he's better than Brett Kulak even, and the price is hilarious

Tyler Bertuzzi - seems to be coming on of late, but he's slow - would be a weird fit for our style of play. Also, injury prone.

Joel Edmundson - haha, come on

Shayne Gostisbehere - Small Barrie who isn't built for playoffs?

Anyone else we're linked to that fixes a problem and is legit a good player and not just a name that some GM is hyping to be helpful? I'd have time for Conor Garland if the Canucks considered that, but I don't think it makes sense with our cap structure. As I said above though - elephant in the room is our goaltending will have to beat Oettinger, Hellebuyck or the Avs, regardless.
First off Holland has been a vocal critic for many years about teams overpaying for one and done rentals, not to say that he's never bit the bullet himself, but he usually stated he regretted doing so after the fact; and over time I think GM's in the league have come more in line with his thinking as pure rentals are much more reasonably priced. It shouldn't be a surprise that his interest in a big ticket player he can't re-sign is not particularly high,

Whether or not a player has been "allowed" to officially talk to teams isn't that relevant, UFA period being a great example teams and agents are clearly talking before they are formally allowed despite it being against the rules. They can't get into the nitty gritty of contract discussion, but an agent tends to give an acquiring team a pretty good indication of whether or not they'd be interested in signing an extension with them and at what price point.

Getting Drai someone he meshes with is ofcourse of value, but it's definitely going to have be someone more affordable than Meier.

I agree with most of your player assessments, but I'll just touch on a couple.

With respect to Bertuzzi I think it's a bit odd to say he'd be a bad fit, cause I see a similarities between his game and Hyman's, it's no secret he's had a rough go of it this year and I got zero idea what the asking price is, but he's a good player.

Gostisbehere- I'm not a big believer in, but I'm not so certain Barrie is all that much better. I see Ghost as more error prone, but he has not lost his wheels to the extent that Barrie has and I foresee that weakness being exposed in the playoffs when the tempo and physicality picks up.

I also like Garland, but apparently Canucks management has soured on him enough to talk buy-out, if that's the case I think they should be very open to talking retention. I've pulled back on my Garland lobbying mostly cause I don't see Yamo as likely being traded in the near term and I don't want to get too small and secondarily I've watched some behind the scenes stuff and I'm getting the impression that Garland isn't only good at agitating the competition, but also his own teammates. It's not necessarily a bad thing, like Tikannen was kind of known for being annoying and that seemed to work, but it's nice to foster an environment where the guys are happy to come to the rink to see one another.

They’ll do it at a point when box office really starts dropping off. Probably with 5-7 years. They’ll use it to try and reignite both franchises.

The thought that Karlsson is only an offensive d-man and you need a shut down dman is completely wrong. Teams that have won over the past decade have had strong 2 way defensemen. Tampa and Colorado in particular have focused d-men who can skate and move the puck up the middle. The oilers struggle with teams that cut off the walls- LA, Montreal, etc because no one can move the puck up the middle (except Bouchard). This is resulting in pucks being turned over in the neutral zone or worse, their own end- that’s why see waves of attack against the Oilers.

People want EK because he is McDavid on the back end. He drives possession and can move the puck. He also has strong possession numbers. He’ll be a huge get for the team and you will see Connor outscore the opposition and have the puck going the right way

You think everyone and everything sucks

Critics didn’t like it but audience scores are high 80s

I know everyone is hyperfocused on Karlsson, but like I suspected it sounds like the D market is opening up a bit.

From the sounds of it the Blues will start entertaining offers on their d-men, there are light rumblings that Weegar might be available (not a Sutter type player), and apparently NSH will be using a 3 game stint to gauge whether or not they should sell and the first game of that stint was last nights game vs BOS. BOS was in cruise control mode for a large chunk of the game and handled the Preds with ease.

True, though I have zero interest in Weegar, and while St. Louis has some dmen, still worried about Parayko's back, and I feel Karlsson is a much better fit than those guys. But I guess if it falls through, I can see them looking elsewhere. Orlov is interesting.

If Holland is smart, he plays Grier hard on this.

If the rumour is true that we are the only serious team in on Karlsson, and Grier knows that we are out if we acquire another higher end guy... Maybe he meets in the middle on price?

Out of curiosity, would everyone be willing to part with what SJ is asking (legit 3 1sts 24,25,26) plus players to make it work? (barrie/Pul) I have a feeling they arnt interested in trying to swap the firsts for prospects

LeBrun today saying Orlov and the Caps are not close to a new deal and while a trade isn't likely, it could happen closer to the deadline.

If Orlov is available, there is my new Oilers target.

The Capitals do not have any defenseman on their active roster signed to a contract next year. Carlson has been on LTIR since the Christmas break. Carlson is the only NHL defenseman they have signed for next season. That's certainly a unique approach to player development and roster management.

Why is the GM trading for non Sutter type players in the first place? Didn't they know who Weegar and Huberdeau were? They should've traded both of them when they acquired them. Heck do half retention on both players and you would've gotten a pretty good package of prospects/picks.

Stupid Calgary lol

I don't think there were a pile of other 100 point players available in the offseason...

There was talk in December about them blowing things up on the back end. Keeping a couple guys and then calling it a year. Even if the returns they got ended up being flipped in the summer in order to bolster their backend back up

Then they went on a bit of a streak and plans seem to have changed.

To be fair on the whif the puck was in too tight to his body. I'll shit on Puljujarvi all day long, but not for that. Any player would have struggled with that

Nope. It was in tight cuz he decided to play hot potato for the 10,000th time. He had all day to use his stick or feet to put it in a better position. But he did what he does all the time and decided the best play was to try and push(that's what his shot is usually, a push) it towards the net

It's quite wild.

Now, 2 are RFAs. I imagine they have to keep Gustafsson the way he has played.

The Caps are generally very good at finding the undervalued D but yeah, you rarely see a team be at risk of their entire D core having expiring deals. Leafs are in a similar spot next year but at least have Rielly locked up.

why would teams want to help out the oilers when they can just sign jesse in the summer after the oilers don't qualify him?

Many teams trade for players to ensure they get/woo them. Teams trade 2nds for signing rights

The cost for JP isn't expensive at all, and yet nobody wants him. Further more, it seems the tale of the video/tape is completely out trumping the "advanced analytics " that have misrepresented his skills the last 2 years, otherwise atleast a couple GMs would have bit already

Blows my mind that we are linked to everyone imaginable but Timo Meier.

Meier would potentially be the piece that puts this team over the top. A 5v5 driver with physicality that could finally answer the Draisaitl winger question.

But no. Only the top 5 teams in the league are linked to him so.

We have 4 guys on pace for 90+ points. Kane is back. Yamamoto is back. McLeod is scoring. Why do we need Meier again?
