After Koski's high glove debacle he had no more leeway, even after he fixed it. I was in every GDT when he was giving us fantastic goaltending and you saw many a rose colored glasses who can't comprehend what is going on the ice vs their own interpretation.

Bear misses an assignment...Koski's fault. Nurse coughs one up...Koski's fault. Horrendous bottom 6 coverage...Kosko strikes again. Koski stops 5 grade A chances and breakaways and then let's in a PP tip in...what a bum!

Koski regressed last season at the start, that is undeniable, but let's not act like this guy wasn't a competent tender through ALOT of career here thus far

People love to sh*t on Holland yet there is a reason he has stated over and over the Oilers have had competent tending the last few years. He's not lying..they have

We have 3 seasoned goalies competeing for a spot, and Skinner as natural and deserved/earned call up, yet some ppl act like we are doomed between the pipes

Koski will have every opportunity to show he can give us fine tending yet again, and we have options if he doesn't.

The team is better, the team depth is better. Our goalies are in a better position now infront of them than any time in several years

Calm down

I can't use more time on this, but I checked his first ten games and at least in those games he didn't allow any goals from the first shot (as often mentioned here), not even close. Here are the times of the first goals in those games:

15:32
23:24
6:50
9:54
46:44
25:55
10:41
5:14
9:29
17:46

Maybe the rest of the season will reveal something else, I might take a look at that at some point.

He was absolutely brutal.

You have to give him credit for his good saves.

He knows NHL pressure now. I'm curious, since it's his contract year, he might show up.

Every shooter in the league knows "High Glove Side".
The team itself loses confidence in front of him.
Its not impossible to fix but the odds are against it.

I won't get into subjective debates and anyway it's clear this was Koskinen's worst season in the Oilers. But in general I'm curious what's the average amount of goals allowed in the first shot suring a season. If one in say 8-10 shots go in there should be quite a few games like that during a long season. But I'm not saying to defend anyone, just curious as something like five games per a full season should be pretty normal if not even good.

It’s interesting to think that if Hyman develops real chemistry with McDavid this season, we could see him picked for Team Canada in the Olympics.

It would be nice if Pulju continues his growth and makes Finland. We should have 3-5 Olympians on our roster.

I have Drai and McDavid as the two locks.
Nurse with an outside chance if he puts up another season like the last one.

Who else do you guys see going? At this point I think Puljujärvi and especially Hyman are longshots.

Who is ahead of Pulju on Finland’s right wing depth chart?

Oiler fans are pretty good at running players out of town who go on to have successful careers elsewhere. Surprising that Nuge managed to stick it out. Maybe we're losing our edge.

Koskinen might not go on to do anything anywhere else, but that list is not too shabby.
Do you think that every other fan base isn’t the exact same way???

Its the nature of the beast.

Assuming 1 in 10 shots goes in (0.900 save percentage) you would expect about 8 of those to be the first shot of the game in an 82 game season.

It's worse here than almost anywhere else. Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton are probably the worst 3 places to play for it. It's sad.
No chance. You think this board is representative of fans? You actually think players read the shit on this Board? And if they do you think they don’t know it’s basically the same everywhere, with the fans who watch the team Uber closely bitching over the slightest thing?

I was thinking about this and will add

a lot of analysts use the term - he is getting into a groove. IMO, the more rubber a goalie sees, the better his ability to stop a puck. One thing that makes goalies great is that they stop a puck after 5 minutes of no real pressure

At the beginning of the game, the goalie is still getting comfortable and trying to find that zone. It would not surprise me if the league save percentage on the first couple of shots is actually a lot lower than 0.90

(This theory falls apart if the same thing applies to shooters)

It's not just this board. It's twitter, the radio, out and about. Enough players have commented on it that it's a well known issue. Lets be honest.

Koskinen is crap. I’m sorry I wish I didn’t have to say that but there is a reason the team rises up and plays their heart out for Smith and droops down acting nervous when Mikko is in net. It’s not because the team missed an assignment. Koskinen doesn’t bail the team out, his mental game is weak and so is his leadership

Only an Oilers fan would lump Pulju and Laine as similar players .

To most others, one is a fringe superstar and the other a fringe AHLer/NHLer.

International tourney where salary cap isn't a factor makes this gap even wider .

Having said that, Pulju has a legit shot at team FIN if he has a decent enough season.

Lol wut? The guy gets the team prepared by allowing the first shot. He’s had 3 years to show he’s got something and he hasn’t done anything. You guys are only looking at stats of those early years. Go look at how he’d allow glove hand and first goal shots in those years as well
