If it was just about that, he would have stayed in LA to collect those cheques.
I like targeting Brandon Saad with some salary retention.
That's another 20 goal scorer injected into the top 6 and he has some speed and experience.

The problem with hanging your hat on drafting and developing at this point is that even if the new regime is more competent than those of the past, none of the players they pick are likely to help the team in the next few years. Short of finding the next Barzal in the bottom 10 or the team free-falling down the standings into the bottom 10, drafting and development at this point is just another way of kicking the can down the road.
There's a middle ground between trading for a former MVP rental and doing nothing. You can draft and develop and improve the roster without sacrificing key futures for a few month fix.
I'll use the Fabbri example again. Got a talented young player with an injury history and a victim of a numbers game for a player worse than Khaira. Criticize Holland for missing out on him. It doesn't have to be Hall or bust.
They could want that all day, but it's mutual contract termination, so he's walking away from money.I think the team also didn't want him there any longer.
I mean I guess. He's walking away from $12m+, that's not nothing. You can go to the highest bidder and then change your mind after the fact.
Hell he already did that once before to the Devils.

Kovy walked away from the Devils to get more paid more in SKA and tax freeHe walked away from more in NJ. A lot more. The guy has a pattern of signing for the dollar signs and not really working out.
Bottom line is Kovalchuk is a crappy teammate, doesn't play any defense, and would require the Oilers to overpay for him in order to outbid the KHL.
I was a huge fan back when way back when he was a Thrasher but that's in the past. He's not a good option.
Who do you take off their PP1 for Kovy??Honestly I hope this happens and he makes me look stupid.
Like I said I used to be a huge fan. Boston would be a good fit too they could cover for his extremely 1 dimensional play.

Obviously he's not going to take it up with the GM.where's McDavid gonna walk? he signed a contract
if he has a problem with the way the team is being built, he's free to discuss it with Holland...being the captain and all

Sure, that's the reason, focus on the seasonChayka says the Coyotes and Hall won't talk about a contract extension until after the season is over.
It's not that it can't be done. I'm just not sure I have any confidence that the people in charge here are capable fo doing it. Given your own example here, combined with Holland's reluctance to spend a 1st round pick in the pursuit of Hall, what makes you think he's capable of doing what needs to be done here?
Lol. Nothing against Hall but I hope they crash hard.Sure, that's the reason, focus on the season
