Maybe, I don’t think Holland is looking for forwards with term, I think any forwards would be a rental

Yep, they're already at a point where they'll need to sell at least two of Yams, Foegele and Kulak in the offseason to get cap compliant, (assuming Bouchard costs about Barrie's contract on a bridge deal).

A quick look at Capfriendly for next year

Guessed at McLeod, Kostin, and Bouchard's raises.
Malone, Ryan, and Janmark are placeholders. But even if it's not those guys specifically, those spots will be filled by someone on a similar cap-hit.

This is with Yams and Kulak out of the equation, and it has them at just under 83mil (barely over the current cap). But unless you get a major cap jump and/or move out Foegele or Ceci, I don't see how you can afford a larger piece.

It would be a mistake to not find a way to improve the top 6 RW situation.

We can safely assume improving on Jack Campbell would not be feasible, and improving on 1RD is also highly implausible and exorbitantly pricey.

We should not be satisfied with 1 random depth F deal that Holland appears to be suggesting. This team has a REAL chance. We’re a competitive team today, and that’s fine… but A “reasonable” 20G type RW would be a MAJOR boost to our chance to win the Big prize.

To me, looking at the balance of potential/rumoured availability, the possible price point, and the ability to contribute in a significant way…. A guy like Anthony Duclair would potentially be a high quality rental for this group.
It's why I'm so interested in Vrana, wings are done with him, but can play and score

I really like the Perron idea tbh. He also has 1 year left after this and Holland seems to prefer guys with more than 1 year I've noticed.

Would really like him but I honestly think he makes too much. Unless Detroit is retaining and I doubt they are. Yzerman probably doesnt want to trade him either.

Would be nice to see Brad Holland find a cheapish winger, diamond in the rough type that could work here.

Ekholm is def our big move. I only see us making 1 more acquisition, probably a depth forward.
And that's fine.

Looking at all the moves on the trade landscape thus far, Ekholm might very well be the biggest impact move in terms of the combination of level of player and vital need that he fills so if this is the one big move, I'm cool with it.

I dont think Bouchard will be 4.5. Maybe if he completely pops off. Holland has shown that he grinds downs guys with no arb rights. Hes probably going to be around 3 if I had to guess.

I think we are leery on moving Yamamoto since he is good friends with Leon and McDavid. Look at how much the Leafs changed and they seemed completely lost last night

I have that same hope man!!! We finally have a top pair Dman who is actually amazing at defence and is actually good at making a first pass with great GREAT hockey IQ. Oh and he's f***ing huge and a veteran and can rookies around

Should I go on?
If you can move Yamamoto, do it.
I do think Klingberg is coming
Overshare.

That would be terrible

Not my first choice either.

But I think Holland probably wants more depth in case of injuries. We would have 4 LD and 4 RD with him.

I think as long as he doesnt overpay, its not really a problem. Just more depth. Hes going to be motivated. Hes probably not as bad as Eakins - Anaheim stats will tell you. But I do think his good days are behind him.

Drai will get Connors current deal and Connor will get 14 per. Unless they see what Tampa did and take discounts of course

I expect Connor will take a discount, but Drai is likely going to ask for full value. Just my opinion of course.

Isn't the cap going up a decent amount next year? That being said, I could see them moving on from Kulak on the offseason for certain. They are very high on Broberg, and he can play both sides as well. VD might be ready for steady third pairing work as well by then. So Nurse/Ceci, Ekholm/Bouchard, and Broberg/VD as the pairs.

Agreed. I think Bouch signs a pretty reasonable bridge deal, and banks on the fact that he is defacto #1 PP guy now, and will sign monster contract after his bridge is over.

That will be the template for what Drai is looking for, and Drai is likely looking for a little more as well.
I'd said it before Drai will sign for what mcdavid is making now. And rightly so. He earned it. Now that's unless he gives home town discount. But I think he already done that on his current contract.

Mcdavid will likely sign for 14/per season. Depending on what matthews gets cuz Mcdavid will be the highest paid when he signs. Home town discount or not...
