Gagner should not be in the nhl. Even in his prime he was a bit of a pretender. He's an AHLer. Every team Gags has been on in the NHL was a bad team outside of the Blue Jackets one year where he was mainly a PP specialist. And they chose not to keep him around next year. It's no coincidence he's bounced from team to team. Usually poor teams that are desperate.

At best he arguably clings on to the NHL with his finger nails and it makes no sense why he gets so complacent and lazy at times out there. He's one of the last guys who can afford to not give 110% every single second on the ice.

he's basically an AHLer who can come up and fill in for clubs with poor depth and might get hot for a few games. But in no way should he be a regular NHLer.
In his prime he was a pretty good middle six player and very good on the PP. but I agree he shouldn’t be on a NHL roster of a good team.

It's not on body language. He has talent, when a player like him stagnates and hits a roof in their ability, it's generally that they really don't want to push themself to the next level.

And quite often because it's painful. Have you seen Draisaitl's work outs? The fact that he basically entirely changed everything about his training after 15-16? Not every player is willing to do that.

You have to be willing to put your ego aside and want greatness so bad that you are willing to do whatever it takes. Draisaitl did it, Ethan Bear did it last summer and it's not an accident that is shows.

Nuge just wants to train with his brother

Looks like RNH is actually doing his job. Too bad he’s stuck with a 4th liner and the rest of our 4th liners suck.

He's not doing his job, Neal is the only one on that line with any ES scoring. If Neal was scoring like RNH, the only reason they're not a net minus is because of Neal's 3 ES goals.

How many ES points does RNH have this year? 2! He’s on pace for 15 ES points lol. Let’s say it’s just a SSS and say he bumps up his production and finishes with 30 ES points (this is generous too).

You’re telling me you can’t get a 30 point ES player for 4M?

Scoring happens in bunches and we all know that. Acting like this 12 game sample size is going to be anything close to what RNH will end up as after he's been consistently a 40 point ES player for the past few years is silly.

So RNH is only positive because of Neal, but Neals success has nothing to do with RNH, despite his 2 ES goals being a direct results of RNH, and the third being set up by the best player in the world?

Interesting.

Neal drives the net and acts as a net front/bumper on the PP quite well. It’s a unique skillset which the Oilers haven’t had in a while and is a main reason why the PP works well this year. Most of his goals are from his own creation, not magical passes by McDrai.

RNH doesn’t bring a single great or elite trait to the table. Like I said he’s a slightly better prime Derick Brassard.

Are those players useful? Sure.

Are they worth 6M+? No.

Maybe, but so far his ES performance has been pitiful.

Neal hasn't done either of those things at ES and gotten any results. Neal is a very valuable PP player, but he's not continuing this current pace for PP goals, just like RNH isn't going to continue to be as unproductive at evens.

Again, if we can replace RNH for under 6m, I'm totally fine with trading him on the condition of bringing in a new player, or moving RNH to a wing position, but considering how great this team has been at acquiring talent or developing forward talent, I can't see anyone replacing RNH for less than 8m.

Neal plays a unique role on the team and if you replaced him with a similar, but inferior type of player (say Chiasson) on the PP the results would show right away. He brings added value to the team as a result.

If you replaced RNH on the PP with a similar, but inferior type of player (say Gagner), would the results really be that much different right now?

If he’s not going to bring ES production and his specialty skills aren’t particularly unique or dominant, he’s not worth 6M.

What do you think 6m buys you in the modern NHL? RNH has a great pass, wrist shot, and ability to play a 2 way game. On a team where just about every one of our PKers is useless offensively in every sense, RNH is incredibly valuable.

He's been snakebitten and had a handful of posts at ES. This 12 game sample size is not going to be the story of his season..

I’m all for being optimistic but I just can’t see it with him. He peaked as an offensive player his first two seasons (don’t let his inflated points total last year fool you) and it’s been downhill ever since. Problem is that the other facets of his game have not upwardly matched the decline in his offensive game.

Oh I didn’t realize that Neal scored all those goals by himself.

Hell, atleast Gagner could get off a one-timer

It gets you a player slightly better than Mike Hoffman, for example, who despite all his warts possesses something unique which isn’t already duplicated throughout the roster: speed and goal scoring ability.

don’t let the only time he’s had ice time with non bottom sixers fool you.

crazy how Nuge can put up great numbers last season and the haters are still out in full force. Like two years ago how he was playing really well until he got the broken ribs. Then boom out came the pitchforks.

All those years with Hall and Eberle don’t count? Hall drove himself to a 80 point season and even Eberle had a 75 point season, all without the benefit of playing tons of PP minutes with McDrai.

Yep. He succeeds with Eberle and Hall: "Hall carried him!"
He doesn't get results with JP/Lucic/Whatever bottom 6/AHL tweener is on his wing: "He's not a line driver get rid of him!"
He succeeds with Mcdavid or Drai: "He's being carried again!"

Meanwhile Mcdavid and Drai have yet to have a winger match the production of RNH last year.

Its almost like good players play best with other good players..

Nuge has always been disappointing given where he was drafted and expectations. His rookie year set the bar extremely high and each year, we've been left wanting more.

It'll be interesting to see if he can break 56 points and 50+% for FO

RNH being the worst player of the three on that line destroys any argument so you're not allowed to point that out, sorry. If RNH had good linemates like Gretzky he'd be scoring so suck it haters.
