He got a high ankle sprain that messed him up for a while, he wasn't the same after that injury. I think lots of it is confidence, he may just need a fresh start.

edit: his S% dropped like mad, underlying stats are still great. I think he's well worth the risk. He does everything well.

But he doesn't fit the mold of a Chiarelli player.

It would only make sense if Read is brought in because we've shipped out Eberle AND Yakupov.

I think he does, two way winger with some skill. He would be a good add to our roster. Good Possession numbers, Chiarelli doesn't only like big, mean players, he likes plays who have a heavy stick, competes, backchecks, etc

Matt Read does that.

He would be a ideal target for us if we trade Ebs and Yak.

How so? Because he isn't 6'3? Read actually went to one of Chiarelli's prospect camps with the Bruins before signing with the Flyers, so I doubt he's that opposed to him.

So TSN folk (Wilde) saying Subban could be traded...
My thoughts:
His 9 million cap hit might be too much considering McDavid and Hall next contracts. I think the Oilers might need to offer extra in player value and try to have Montreal retain a million or two/ year. I also think the Oilers would be shy to trade Nurse, Klefbom or Davidson so the offer might be all forwards. Nuge and Yak seems like a fair deal to me. Nuge would be a great #1/ #2 centre for them for many years to come, those who watch him know his value. Nuge will be a #1 or a strong #2 centre for the next decade. Yak played with Gal in junior and has more value at 2.5 million than most believe. Add or subtract as needed.
They say the hockey trade part is toughest, I'm not sure, seems a pretty good fit to me...
Otherwise Oilers go smaller fish like Vatanen or Barrie or Hamonic and wait on their younger dmen. But if Subban is available you think they will kick tires, or perhaps they decide he is too much of a media hound...

Wonder if Eberle + our pick + a defenceman like Davidson gets that conversation started.

Subban's loss from Montreal this year has been a disaster for them, particularly on special teams. He'd be exactly what the Oilers need.

I can't believe Montreal would be stupid enough to trade PK, but if they did, I'd serve up Nuge, Nurse, a first and a second. I'd even sub in Klefbom for Nurse if that's what it took, but Montreal would have to give a little back in return either in picks/prospects or a chunk of retained salary.

Would definitely assume the conversation for a Subban trade starts at Draisaitl.

Still don't think he is available at all but it sure is weird how the management in Montreal really doesn't seem to like him much.

So you're saying there's a chance?

but what are they basing his supposed availability on? I'm genuinely asking btw. If it's just their speculation then I would say it's barely worth discussing. He's not available. I doubt Montreal is one of those teams that is just itching to blow up their roster considering how good they were as early as one season ago.

Montreal is weird and does strange things. Remember when they traded McDonough for Gomez?

oh, plus bob (he started this whole thing on TSN1050)

well, its more realistic today that PK would get traded than ever before
but its still a longshot and we'd need to part with our 1st and HALL IMO

If we win the lottery.. I wonder if Montreal would bite on something like this.

Matthews + Hall + Yakupov for Subban + Gallagher

If they're considering shopping Subban, they'd definitely do that. From a value perspective, that's a MASSIVE overpayment. You could take Hall completely out of that and it would be close for value.

Lol what? Take Yak out and it would be close in value? are you kidding? Young #1 D men don't grow on trees, and Gallagher is exactly the type of player every team wants.

Subban>>Matthews
Gallagher>>>>>>>>>Yakupov

Not sure what the hypothetical cost would be..? They have a need on RW so you would think one of Eberle or Yakupov...Eberle makes some sense to help balance out the dollars, Yak because of the Galchenyuk thing and the trade request. Guessing they'd require one of Klefbom or Nurse. Wonder if that + 2017 1st/Nuge does it..?

Eberle + Nurse + 2017 1st
or
RNH + Nurse + Yakupov
