 I made a joke yesterday saying 7 x 7.

I know Chia is a junk GM, but he can't be that bad....:help: can he?
I stated yesterday not as a joke watch Lucic will be 7x7 because Chia never learns . Remember Bruin fans warned us he will put us in cap hell as well. He inherited a good Bruins team made one good UFA signing in Chara they won one cup is the most overrated Gm in the league. I have a feeling Katz put the brakes on the RNH trade after the ridicule Chia received around the NHL last night . Franchise winger for a defensive dman

Wow. Take a breather.

So that one Chara signing got him to 2 cup finals?

Please put us in cap hell Chia! If that is what comes before!

I forgot every GM signs every player to below market value...

I wish we were in cap hell after making it to 2 finals and winning a cup, lets hope he repeats that here, I'm totally cool with that after the last 10 years.

This is entirely false about inheriting the team. He brought in over 75% of the cup winning roster while he was GM.

Not only is he not a top-4 guy (he's Justin Schultz with a cannon for a shot and hitting ability), but he's also a complete tool in the room/disliked by teammates from all accounts...including Alex Petrovic's cousin- an Oiler fan- who I'm still close friends with (I grew up with Petro as well....close friends all the way til the end of junior high).

Who are you talking about?

I hope we get Demers and Lucic for under 11M I think Demers only makes our back end better. I know he doesnt bring a lot of offense but he is still a solid player and I would love to have him

One of Chai excuse was the cap friendly contract of Adam Larsson and Making room for others... he then signs a gun blazing 230 pound power forward to a 7m x 7 contract... Im having a hard time understanding what os going on here. Can we start a support group or like a HFOil funded therapist??? Anyways I'm a die hard and its hard for me to not get emotional when I see things like this happen so Ill watch the first 25 games of the season before I blow up..

Ooo and just to let some of you know it didnt work..

Well when you use a little perspective and realize what a tire fire he inherited in Edmonton its a lot easier to not get so worked up.

Gm number 1 duty is to make good trades when called upon. Chia is a failure yesterday was proof positive . He was laughed at around the hockey world yesterday . And I bet every gm in the league had a little snicker after trade was announced. But hey no worries were getting a 50 million dollar turtle to replace him. Because Chia loves to overpay for everything cap hell is next, no way will Drai Pulhjujarvi McDavid give the team any break after watching the dough thrown at Lucic.

Chiarelli did not inherit a good Bruins team, lol.

Well let's give it some thought.

Lucic/Krejci/Bergeron/Chara/Marchand/Rask/Thomas/Savard were all moves made by previous regimes or Jeff Gorton.

That's....most of the guys that made the team important.

Chiarelli made a few key important moves - Horton, Recchi, McQuaid, Ryder, Seidenberg, Peverley, Kelly, Boychuk and Ference. Those were all important players at some point in time.

He overpaid for Kaberle but he wasn't terrible.

He also traded Kessel, Seguin and Wheeler. Kessel's deal was fine - the team got decent assets - but the Seguin and Wheeler trades are kind of unforgivable, even though Wheeler hadn't fully developed yet. He got Eriksson and Smith at least for Seguin - but dealing Seguin was completely unnecessary in the first place and the reason behind it was asinine.

I think Chiarelli is a bit of a mixed bag - sometimes he's right, sometimes he's wrong. I also think he fell victim to many GMs that make the final - overpay for your own players after due to the success.

The Boston teams from 2011-2014 were all cup worthy teams, but only one cup. When he comes to a team like ours where the development is quite poor, he has to take more risks and then you get a higher chance of failing. That's kind of how it was going to be with any GM.

Doesn't Lucic want to be close to home? Dallas doesn't make much sense

It was a garbage trade but Katz still has to approve it, which he did.

I made this post when the Oilers were about to hire Chiarelli:

Chiarelli was hired by the B's on May 26, 2006, though he wasn't on the job until July because the Senators wanted him to finish out his contract with them.

The players below all played in the 2010-11 playoffs for the Bruins.

Already in the Bruins organization prior to Chiarelli's arrival:

1. Patrice Bergeron
2. David Krejci
3. Tim Thomas

Brought in by Chiarelli:

1. Johnny Boychuk - acquired in 2008 from COL for Matt Hendricks
2. Gregory Campbell - acquired in 2010 with Horton from FLA for Dennis Wideman, 1st-Rd, & 3rd-RD
3. Andrew Ference - acquired in 2007 with Chuck Kobasew from CGY for Wayne Primeau & Brad Stuart
4. Shane Hnidy - 2011 UFA signing
5. Nathan Horton - acquired in 2010 with Campbell from FLA for Dennis Wideman, 1st-Rd, & 3rd-RD
6. Tomas Kaberle - acquired in 2011 from TOR for Joe Colbourne, 1st-RD, & 2nd-RD
7. Chris Kelly - acquired in 2011 from OTT for a 2nd-RD
8. Adam McQuaid - acquired in 2007 from CBJ for a 5th-RD
9. Daniel Paille - acquired in 2009 from BUF for a 3rd-RD and future considerations
10. Rich Peverley - acquired in 2011 with Boris Valabik from ATL for Mark Stuart & Blake Wheeler
11. Mark Recchi - acquired in 2009 with a 2nd-RD from TB for Martins Karsums & Matt Lashoff
12. Michael Ryder - 2008 UFA signing
13. Tyler Seguin - drafted 2nd overall in 2010
14. Dennis Seidenberg - acquired in 2010 with Matt Bartkowski from FLA for Craig Weller, Byron Bitz, & 2nd-RD
15. Shawn Thornton - 2007 UFA signing

Not listed are Zdeno Chara (2006 UFA signing), Milan Lucic (2006 draft), Brad Marchand (2006 draft), Tuukka Rask (acquired June 24, 2006 from TOR for Andrew Raycroft), and Marc Savard (2006 UFA signing, though injured for the playoffs), because they were all acquired after Chiarelli was hired but before he was officially on the job. Hard to say how much input he had with those (I remember there being controversy over the Chara signing because both he and Chiarelli had been in the Ottawa organization), but just to be safe I'll omit them.
fwiw I think it is highly unlikely that an incoming GM wouldn't have input over significant moves made after he is hired but before he was officially on the job. When Chara was extended in 2010 he said he came to Boston "with Peter".
