Rumor: Big Changes Coming to HNIC Panel

What on earth are they even doing?

They're just gonna keep cutting and cutting until the HNIC panel is literally just an extension of whatever endless droning repetitive Rogers hockey talk radio/TV happens to be going on at the time of the intermission. With irritating pop-ins from David Amber laughing at nothing and throwing to Gambling Ads.

It should be punishable by exile, what that company Roger has done to a genuine Canadian Institution.

To be fair, it's just a rumor.

Maybe it's just one of Elliott's "thoughts" even.

I don't know that it even really matters. HNIC has been completely mangled beyond recognition at this point anyway. Might as well kick off the one guy who actually anchors it to the past, and the other guy who actually makes an intermission interesting and makes it feel like a "special" occasion compared to the fifty billion other weeknight gambling advertisement vehicles.

Friedman is the only one worth watching, Bieksa is ok but the rest of the panel..lets just say, for better or for worse, HNIC first intermission hasn't been a must watch TV for the past two decades since Cherry started talking about wars and politics in every segment.

Disagree as I like the current panel and divergent opinions and Bieksa is awesome on it but yes Friedman is probably the star.
I hope she doesn't get moved from TSN, I like her intermission analyses on the regional Sens broadcasts and would like to keep it that way. One of the better hockey desk analysts, female or otherwise.
Agree she knows her stuff and if she was a dude she would be getting prime time minutes long ago.

It’s Hockey Night in Canada. But it seems like the TV company is trying to make the show more American. There’s a formula (tradition) of HNIC that is Canadian and works. Having a Coaches Corner again would be good. Not too sure replaces Cherry’s role though. Then the Hot Stove stuff in the second intermission.

I don't that it's more "American" per se. The US still make a huge effin' deal about "Sunday Night Football" and "Monday Night Football". Those games are still special and unique, and get a presentation that reflects that.

That's what HNIC used to be to Canada. It was...Saturday night as a kid, just soaking in the hockey until bedtime. It was a pretty ubiquitous experience for generations.

But it doesn't feel to me like they're trying to "Americanize" it. It just feels like they're trying to water it down so it feels exactly the same as a Tuesday game on their flagship Rogers Sportsnet network. I can't really tell how much of the mix is just Rogers being cheapskates on the content production after they paid an absurd fortune to deliberately squeeze ALL competition out of the market entirely. Versus, how much of it is just that they can't stand the idea that a Saturday night CBC available broadcast would be "better" than their typical garbage fare during the week.

But whatever it is, they've spent the entire time they've owned the rights to the property just basically being slumlords, if not actively tearing down foundation elements. Patching them with gambling ads and more distraction from the actual hockey game at any point possible. It's a travesty.

I always thought Burkie would be good for coaches corner - of course he was never a coach but he has the same calls it as he sees it attitude Don Cherry did.

Ive heard that Bieska is good.

McClean is nauseating. Bottrelli is terrible. Hrudey is a sap.
I haven't seen much of Bieska , simply because I turn the channel when the panel comes on .....been doing so since before they even put Bieska in there.
Would be great if Bergers report turns out to be true
If you have no opinion on bieksa from not watching how do you have one on botterill?

I'd be a lot happier if I heard that Friedman was leaving and the other four were staying.
He's a hockey persona that people actually follow, so he brings viewers. Nobody gives a f*** about the other 4

You either love him or hate him, even with his x-phobic rants, he was a must watch TV when he spoke hockey. It was like watching an accident that you can't turn away from. Leafs fans will remember Alexei Ponikarovsky - I still chuckle at how Cherry would refer to him as Pony Horseky. In the 90s HNIC 1st intermission with Ron and Don was must watch TV, to the chagrin or outrage of opposing fans of the Leafs, but it was never a dull moment with him on TV in that segment.

He was basically senile by the end he rarely made any sense. Still entertaining but man it was tough to see.

The problem with HNIC is that they speak about everything BUT hockey to appease the "woke" crowd. It is literal indoctrination. I want to be able to sit down and watch great analysis, game breakdowns etc., player interviews etc.

I only watch once in a blue moon these days but this feels genuinely disconnected from reality lol. All I ever see is them talking about hockey.

They're just gonna replace the entire panel with animatronics and sports betting graphic overlays.

Keep Amber and Bieksa, I like Jen and even Kelly. I always liked Strombolopoulas and didn’t understand the problem with him. get rid of all the gambling ads so they can have longer to discuss the game (and not the Leafs even if they’re not playing)

Strombo was okay, but his real strength is doing in depth interviews. He's better suited for other gigs.

I'm 38.

When I was a little kid I saw Ron McLean at the airport. He looks exactly now as he did then.

He was an old guy 30 years ago.

Credit for not aging these past 30 years. But also kinda weird that he perpetually looks like a 55 year old man.

I bet he looked 55 when he was in high school.
