i've seen lohrei's name pop up in a lot of places, so figured it's time for a bump on this thread.
i have no idea how to post videos, but dial up a few of his clips if you haven't see this guy.
he's one of the most unique prospects in hockey. is he untouchable? no. but it better be a
good hockey trade if you do it.

seems like it would be a good time to turn pro. not sure I see the benefits of another NCAA season when many from his draft class are already in the NHL or AHL this season

I’d keep Lohrei in college next year and then sign him. Let him get a bit more comfortable in tough situations in his own end, first, then let him roll in Providence. I wouldn’t be upset if he signed, though. He hasn’t played in a couple of weeks due to an LBI and I haven’t heard anything else, but I don’t think it’s anything major since it came about after he finished a weekend set IIRC.

This seemed to be the general consensus from his naysayers last year. Good to see the kid still showing great potential.

@Saxon Eric any idea what lohrei's injury was? think i saw someone report today that he's still working through it and is taking
his time with a decision to stay or go pro (and seems like 1 more year in college isn't terrible for a guy that became a D at 16)

Glad we were able to hang on to this kid. Gotta love the size of our possible top 4 going forward (provided Lohrei reaches his potential)

If Lohrei develops into an offensive defenseman with a little nasty (which he’s shown), our top 4 is going to be beautiful.

Wouldnt mind dealing him now tbh. Seems like a luxury boston cant afford to have. Too many immediate pressing needs with the top 6 to dream on your potential 3rd dman

He will be great, and I mean great. Potential to be a 65-80 point guy. He will learn so much as a pro. He just gets it. I hope he signs soon.

Your expectations for Lohrei seem unrealistic. 65-80 points? You think we have (close to) PPG defenseman?

I like the kid but I think you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.

Lower body is all I know, he wasn't skating very well in the last game he played
I want him to turn pro now but how his season ended and the teams failure to make the round of 16 I could see him leaning towards the "unfinished business" route and staying another year

Its a luxury for Boston to have a

Lindholm — McAvoy
Lohrei — Carlo

Down the road?

I think your future 2nd pairing dman can be found within our system currently (zboril, gallagher, mast), or with a future pick, or via free agency. But a top 6 centermen is necessary next year particularly if bergeron retires. So yeah id say its a luxury to hold onto a future middle pairing dman when your team needs 2 centerman and a rw. Cant solve all the problems with lohrei but I definitely don’t see a massive need for him anymore with 3 high level dmen already on the big club presumably long term.

I didn't get to watch much of him this year, but from what I've seen/read the offense seems to be pro-ready, but not the defense. I think the question with having him turn pro now versus next year depends on whether they feel that the Ohio State coaching staff can develop that defensive side, or if he needs to be in Providence for it.

From a contract perspective, the age he signs his ELC might be the biggest factor. My understanding is that the length of contract is determined by the player's age as of September 15th of the calendar year in which they sign. That means that he could sign a 3 year deal this year, but only a 2 year deal next year, when he turns 22 in January. That pushes me towards signing him immediately where you can have him developing under your watch for a longer period of time before he's an RFA.

List of d-men who have a P/GP that would put them within that range based on the last 3yrs

Carlson
Hedman
Fox
Letang
Hughes

^I see 3 former Norris winners there lol. I'd agree that it's unrealistic to expect that type of production out of him. Even a guy like Krug who was a big point producer on the backend never cracked 60pts with this team. He came close a few times but never did it. I will say though that if you take his best 3 years (2016-2019) his P/GP puts him right at 60pts. So basically Lohrei would need to be prime Boston Krug offensively

I might be. I tend to under rate. our prospects. I just love the way this kid plays and more importantly he keeps getting better. Dominates after 1 year of college hockey.

He is exciting. Crazier things have happened. Who knows? Maybe he does become a star NHL defenseman who puts up mega points.

I’d just expect less and if you get that, wow. Haha

There is that saying for Krug that if he was bigger and but continued to produce like he did, he would have been one of the best defenseman in the league. At least, that’s what I always thought haha
