I agree with your post 100%.
I hope he becomes the next Larry Robinson and we have a new " big three" with him Mac and Carlo.
With Carlo's concussion history.....I dont believe we can count on him playing in the NHL much longer. He has had some very bad issues lately and i gotta believe at his age with money in the bank...He must think of his long term health. Thats my iew only.

Throughly enjoyed going through this thread again, the angst! the anger!conspiracies galore!followed by acceptance and cautious optimism!
AOF had some good takes as well, man is that guy missed
Anyway Congratulations to Mason Lohrei!

Points wise, he did way better than a previous winner of this award, Owen Power, now viewed as the franchise-saving no. 1 prospect in this year's draft. Of course, Power was a couple of years younger than Lohrei when he won the award, but my takeaway is that Lohrei is a year closer to slotting in on the B's backline than Power is with Buffalo.

Keep in perspective he is 20 in the USHL playing against some kids that are 16.

I took a quick look at the # of players to achieve PPG or better in the USHL over the last 10 years, irrespective of age. Results are pretty interesting. Minimum 5 games played, and the defensemen are in brackets:

2021 - 26 (1, Mason Lohrei)
2020 - 22 (0)
2019 - 27 (2, Cam York, Ronald Attard)
2018 - 19 (1, Ben Finkelstein)
2017 - 14 (1, Quinn Hughes)
2016 - 10 (0)
2015 - 25 (1, Brandon Montour)
2014 - 23 (1, Brandon Montour)
2013 - 19 (0)
2012 - 16 (0)
2011 - 12 (0)

So it's fair to say that it's an uncommon feat. The best comparable is Attard (72nd overall 2019, Flyers), who the same age as Lohrei in 2019. Attard has done well in college thus far, so hopefully Lohrei can follow suit and continue making strides.

Bold prediction, he'll make it on the Bruins next season.

Not even close to happening. He is 20 years old playing USHL - he should dominate that level. Most good 20 year olds are sophomores or juniors in the NCAA by now. He should be playing at least 3 years in NCAA before being ready to turn pro if he progresses. Making the Bruins next season is laughable.

Either that or he foregoes the NCAA and goes to Providence, but he's a project there as well with likely a couple seasons + required.

If Lohrei was eligible for this upcoming draft. How high do you guys think he would be drafted this time around?

if he`s on the Bruins next year it`s because Sweeney did nothing this summer and is looking to get fired

I`m more than intrigued with this kid, have no ambition to see him rushed in

Looks like he is already committed to Ohio state for next season

yeah way too soon to rush him like that. But after next season, if he is the real deal. Bruins should have a framework ready to sign him to a contract

How old is he in this hypothetical scenario?

Not sure exactly what you mean. Lets say 2002 born?

I know Power is one year younger and considered a higher level prospect. Some are already comparing him to Hedman due to size and two way ability

Lohrei from all the clips I have seen/stats. Reminds me in the mold of Brent Burns/poor man version. Has some nifty offensive tricks and hard shot. Good skater for 6'4 size

I didn't know he committed to Ohio when I made that comment. I still think we'll see him in Providence or on the Bruins some time next year once his college season is over.

I cannot expect him to plan on playing more than 1 season of NCAA as he probably should have been in college last year or just gone north to a CHL team. If he struggles (or rather just isn't a star) I still would expect him to hop to AHL for 22/23 season.

I don't like young guys playing in the AHL and not many guys jump from USJHL to the A.

He's 20 and he's just starting college next year?

Do we have the next Dr. Tommy Cross on our hands here?
