I don’t get it, I haven’t really followed him as a prospect so I can’t really say something like “I told ya so”, but almost everyone here was kind of dumbfounded after camp why he wasn’t in the lineup. Now seeing his training camp carry over, it’s even more of a head scratcher.

He has never looked like he did last night, he's skating more fluidly, faster and with more confidence.
This is what an offseason is for, young players need to work hard to take their game up another level.
Andrae has, though i don't know why he didn't show this in TC.
Maybe he just needed a little time to get comfortable with his improved skill package?

I've been banging the drum for a year now - what annoyed me about resigning Seeler and EJ, is that it effectively blocked Andrae from having a legit chance of making the team from camp.

It had to take Zamula/EJ sucking, York getting injured for Emil to get a chance.

Thankfully he is taking his chance, looked incredible last night. Underlying metrics look awesome too. He could have had 3 points easily.

If he can keep his play at a 2nd pair level, man that would be a huge win.

This is the best I’ve ever seen him play. Can he keep up the pace or is it just a temporary NHL adrenaline boost? He’s kind of playing how people thought Provorov would play coming into the league (he didn’t have the hands or vision we are seeing).

He always had really good hands and a great toe drag but that must have been the slowest end to end rush last night. No idea how he pulled that off.

Getting thrown on an NHL PP1 after not getting any time in preseason has to be a big confidence booster though.

With the Flyers it feels like a misnomer to start our PP numbering system at 1 when compared to the rest of the league. I think we have a PP5 and a PP6.

Well, it's clear Andrae has taken a leap in his development. So that tiebreaker Russian edge to Zamula is gone. Andrae is the superior player. By far.

He's looked good so far, though last night was special.
But long way to go, especially a guy that size, has to show he can hold up playing 20+ a night.
Though York has set a good example, before he got dinged he had taken a big step up.

If Andrae is the superior player by far (I don't disagree), then there was no tie leading up to the tiebreaker of knowing the Russian language. They were not and never have been on equal footing play-wise. Zamula is not waiver-exempt, either.

It was the logjam the FO created which stalled Andrae's NHL appearance. Before TC even began, Johnson being re-signed meant Andrae had no chance of making the roster out of camp unless someone was injured (Seeler fit the bill).

Andrae looked like our best defensemen in TC and preseason games. Loads better than Risto, Seeler, Johnson, Zamula, and Drysdale.

Andrae looks like a different player so far this season compared to his short prior NHL stint and his time with the Phantoms.

And he didn't stand out over anyone in preseason, even if he was solid. Certainly not "loads better" than Risto, who was their best defenseman in preseason. You're acting like he was some kind of world beater when he just kind of blended in.

So it makes sense that they gave Zamula the nod considering they were trying to help Michkov's transition to North America. But now that Andrae got his chance as the first call-up, he is proving himself. Great. That's what you want. Depth, and players who take advantage of their opportunities and don't let go.
