Again, I can be cautiously open to Gauthier being able to play center. He has certain skills that could plausibly be shaped with some developmental imagination (a Flyers speciality). It's not the most common switch, but it has happened. But this is a wildly different discussion than assuming he can play center and paying the draft day value -- a top 5 pick -- for that top 6 center, which I'm not even sold on being his realistic ceiling. And many players making the switch have elite talent level (Aho, Giroux), which he does not. He's big though!

I was revisiting this thread, and I had somehow missed that McKeen's and Chuck Fletcher made Jeff Carter references to Cutter Gauthier.

I really like that reference and it makes me feel better about Gauthier (not that I thought there were any other clearly superior options).

Both are big, are incredible natural athletes, excellent skaters, and have absolutely wicked shots.

Neither are your prototypical pass-first playmaking type center, but both good on draws with strong two-way games.

I don't think Cutter will be as good as Carter, but that's a good model for Cutter's game at center.

All our experiments with players who switch positions went so well..... i'am full of hope he can be anything the Front Office wants him to be.

I learned to golf and played hockey Right handed as a kid. Probably played 5 years right handed. When we moved I started swinging left handed and played hockey left handed for some reason. I would say I can drive 280-290 yards left handed and 200 yards right handed now.
