Bullshit. Multiple other players have been more passive. He's being punished because Tortorella doesn't understand or like his playstyle. It's that simple.
Right, Torts sent Brink down b/c he doesn't like small playmaker types.
And he's cut back on TK b/c he doesn't like fast guys who gamble.

Maybe you need to rethink your dogmatic stance?

Keep pretending Tortorella doesn't have a pointless and unfounded irrational hatred of Frost. It will age as well as your claims that Tortorella loves offense and is secretly an offensive mastermind who also wouldn't favor veterans over youth.

Anyway, Gauthier should not be assumed to be a center, and it's bizarre to worry about a proven center carrying a load he's already carried and then handing that challenge to a rookie instead. It makes zero sense. It doesn't help either of their skillsets, especially since Cutter will have his work cut out for him translating his perimeter shooting game to the NHL to begin with.

Tippett never gets his ice time cut, never gets scratched, and never even gets criticized by the coach despite having significantly worse defensive results and almost identical ES production to Frost in very similar usage over a 100+ game sample. There's zero truth to the idea that Frost has struggled with defensive responsibilities.

Tipettt - 3.7 ES GA/60 in 103 games

Frost - 2.95 ES GA/60 in 138 games

Don't think Tippett is competition for Frost, when did he start playing center?

Meh. Torts benches everyone.

I do think they want to be competitive for player evaluation reasons, people want to play all prospects, the problem is you get blown out on a regular basis and opposing teams play at 80%, while a lot of the game is garbage time, so what might look like a good performance will evaporate as soon as the team is good enough for opponents to take seriously.

Whereas playing competitive games gives you a much better sense of how your young players are progressing - do they step up in the 3rd period of tight games? do they make mistakes under pressure? Especially games like @Dallas, @Vegas. These are "measuring stick" games.

But to field a competitive (not a playoff team, just a team that is in most games like the Flyers have been under Torts) team, you need enough solid veterans so you're not expecting a bunch of inexperienced kids to match up against good teams.

So you balance playing veterans to remain competitive and playing kids to develop and evaluate them.

Deadhead: Torts benches everyone
Also Deadhead: He's not competition, why would Torts bench him

He's never wrong

You literally just said Frost should move to LW.
"Should?"
It's a possibility, I think G was a RW in the CHL, center in the NHL, then finally a LW.
Depends what they're looking for in a center and who they can find.

Seems like Fletcher may have nailed this pick. May be too early to call though
Not too many other guys you can argue over Gauthier at this point…. Jiricek and Mintyukov being the main/obvious candidates. Gauthier should be a great player for the Flyers regardless. Something they’ve been missing for quite a while.
