So, just looked up Gauthier for the first time.
Cutter. Gauthier.
Did not expect he was from Sweden.
I really don't know enough about any of the prospects to have a strong opinion. I hope he works out and he seems to have the tools. I really hope the scouting team hit a home run with this pick. It will suck if Jiricek turns into Hedman or something.
Chuck was probably swooning interviewing him at his dads barbecue. This kid loves to talk lol

He’s a Canadian/American born in Sweden. His dad (former Sharks goalie) is from Sudbury, Ontario.
So he’s basically an international mutt.
That's what I figured. Gauthier is a very common name up here.
Why did you post this? A poster is going to use this as the end all be all to defend the picks.

I’m assuming Sudbury area?
I’m in NB. Lots of Gauthier, LeBlanc, Cormier, Richard, Melanson out here.
Sudbury area has a decent Franco population too, especially near Kapuskasing. Lived in Ottawa for a decade and travelled Ontario lots.
You from the Soo?
Just stating my opinion.I would have preferred Nazar too (or a trade back to get Gauthier if that was their guy or anyone else really). But I don't think it is so one-sided that picking Gauthier over Nazar (or Jiricek or whomever) is shocking or laughable or somehow proof that this is a bad pick because it was made by the Flyers.
He screams Hayes like. Nazar screamed girly like. In their primes which would you prefer. That says more about the limitations of your information sources.
There's a very good reason why Cutter Gauthier came up 5th on Bob McKenzie's poll of scouts. It helps being big but he isn't any bigger than Devin Kaplan. Gauthier is one of the fastest players in the draft. He has startling acceleration for a big man. His shot is one of the best too. Very good handling in tight spaces. In Mitch Brown's tracking work he came out ahead of Cooley and Nazar in transition success (carrying the puck from one end to the other).
That transition skill, the strong defensive play, the faceoff wins, it all makes him an easy projection as a center. I watched PLD develop and Gauthier is ahead of where he was at 18 in some ways, and more easily projects as a center. He has a much better shot, for one thing. Though ideally Gauthier will be paired with a playmaking wing.
This guy is a very good bet to be a top six center. Flyers did well here. (Though I like Jiricek more )
