well we have lots of "fans" who do that here...lol.

Joking aside, Burke said that GM's view skating as the #2 fixable flaw in a player with strength being #1. So seeing him already improve his skating saw his draft status improve and they pointed out that he knows he needs to improve it and is working hard in the offseason to make it better.

Personally, a comment I liked was that someone said he had a Scheifele like passion for hockey. MS is known for being all about hockey, similar how Provy seems to be. And that type of attitude should go a long way in helping him improve his skating flaws. Seems like he wil put the work in to fix it.

Guess we will see. Hopefully when the OHL season starts, we see the comments about how much better his skating has become since the end of last year. Remembering back to the comments on Myers and how he looked like a different player compared to the year before.
His interview was pretty impressive. Seems like an intelligent kid. Seems to have a passion for the game. So those are promising signs. If he can fix the skating, he seems to have big upside, because he has the size, hands, and shot.

The "Draft Dynasty" YouTube scouting video of him has a string of really bad defensive zone exit passes, which is bothersome but should be able to be coached out.

We just need a good passer to find him trailing the play as the 3rd guy in and hit him for a 1 timer.

EZPZ. ;)

Let's just see how he looks this coming year and see the difference between the clips/we are all seeing now. AT least he knows he needs to fix it to be an NHLer....no delusion on his part.

Frosty feeding him one timers :)

Just need Hayes to protect the puck in the OZ against 4 defenders for the 2 minutes it takes JvR Foerster to make his way up ice and then reluctantly give it away like Hayes is parting with his only child.

Skating aside, I think Foerster's biggest challenge is looking like the dumb older brother in Young Sheldon.

I usually hate or love the Flyers pick. I am still torn in this. On one hand they actually actually drafted a pure goal scorer instead of the usual ''solid all around player'' they go for. This kid can FN shoot the puck. On the other hand, after watching the playoffs I was really hoping they would put an emphasis on speed throughout this entire draft so his skating issues are concerning. Perreault was there on the board and is also a great goal scorer but doesn't have the skating issues. I know Perreault's lack of consistency and perchance for disappearing at times was a concern for the Flyers. Time will tell if they made the right call. I am definitely happier with Foerster than someone like Bourque or Greig.

I also want to point out that the downright stupid overreaction by some Flyers fans is laughable. Aside from McKeens, Foerster was ranked anywhere from 16 to 31. As per usual I saw a lot of comments calling the pick a reach and complaining that they didn't trade down if they were going to take him. First of all, it wasn't a reach at all, and second of all, if he was their guy you don't risk moving down a few spots and potentially lose out on him. I actually saw someone here call him a 3rd round pick in multiple posts. I completely get it if you wanted someone else, and have concerns about his skating but I will never understand the silly hyperbole that comes from pretty much every pick the Flyers ever make.

Interesting..

Where he’ll be Drafted

Though he is mostly ranked in the 25-45 range, Foerster is the type of player that will likely be drafted higher than many expect. Much like with the selections Jake DeBrusk or Liam Foudy, a team could catch a lot of ire when they “reach” for Foerster, only to be proven to have made the right selection a few years down the road.

I watched every clip I could find, and I watched his CHL Prospects game. It's not my favorite game viewing for sure, so I admit my read is laughably flimsy......but I find Foerster a confusing player. Not necessarily negative. I'm okay with identifying fixable flaws in a high pick, but confusion isn't my favorite prospect vibe for a 1st rounder. I'd probably feel more comfortable with him at 33 than 23.

At least in terms of stride, he's a long strider (he looks bigger than 6'2 even), and once he gets into his knee bend, his stride is far from broken. I also agree it looks cleaner off-puck. The mechanical issues seem fixable; Flahr said they followed his offseason closely. I have ranked poor skaters highly (Jason Robertson at ~15), so I don't have an inherent bias. But not all skating flaws are equal. I think it's his quickness and footwork that bother me more. Lot of upright, high center of gravity standing and sluggish starts.

I doubt he'll ever be more than mediocre as a transition player (I noticed the lazy flip dumps too) -- which isn't great in a league highly reliant on rush scoring -- but his short area skating left a lot to be desired in the o-zone too. He's got excellent reach and good hands, but I didn't exactly see a player adept at using his edges, spinning off guys, and protecting pucks. Seemed he just moved it instead. Conversely, he forechecked better than I figured when he had some momentum. I think that goes to the IQ.

His shot is high end. No point discussing that further. That will play on the PP. His hockey sense seems solid. He's not a tunnel vision shooter, and he'll move it accordingly. But I always ask myself: how will a player create 5v5 space as a pro? Having a great shot and getting that shot off are two VERY different things. Foerster seemed to drive the net hard, knew how to position himself, but again, will a player be reliant on others to find them? Or can they take the puck themselves into high danger situations? Space gets small in the NHL. You can sell me on his upside; you can sell me on his downside. Ergo: confusion. I'm still a little skeptical this wasn't something of a superficial box checking pick.

Well, that answers my question about his in-close skating. That bodes poorly for translating his "I Am Open" skills to the NHL, but we'll see how it goes. I'll feel great if he improves there and also our team starts giving prospects a real chance without requiring they blow the doors off.

Concerns about the Flyers' lack of speed are well-founded. It's a legitimate problem. Then again, it isn't often you get to draft a guy with Foerster's size, smarts, and ridiculous shot at pick 23. And he doesn't have Perrault's effort questions. I think he's an intriguing selection. His overall game needs work, but with improved skating that should come. Pretty big upside. They're going to have to add some speed, though. Totally agree about that.
