I kind of hope he gets loaned to sochi again next season rather than play for SKA. I really think that if Michkov is on Sochi again next season they make playoffs with moderate roster improvements. It is more fun and impressive he can help take an organization from the bottom to the top than just being on another one of many great SKA hockey teams.

Last season Sochi was astrocious with 11 wins all year. They aren't great this year, but it is nearly twice as many wins as last season. If they make playoffs next year with that climb from the bottom.... it just seems like a way cooler legacy to have

I personally don't see Sochi becoming much better because their coaching sucks. Defense doesn't work mostly so I doubt they are a playoff team no matter what. And given Matvei's competitiveness I'm pretty sure he'll be frustrated if his team sucks again. Of course if Rotenberg doesn't play him another time, the loan will be quite possible but it's still a pretty big if.

He'll be on SKA next season and in the top six.
I mean you're gonna play Vorobyev over him?

Vorobyev has one more year left on his contract.
Hmm, play with Michkov for a year, then come back and give him a familiar face when he comes over?
He could double or triple his salary for a few years, nice nest egg.

after Sochi's games were done last year michkov finished the season playing for their MHL team, and ended up losing in the first round of the playoffs to SKA's MHL team. but Michkov was over a point per game in those games and he got into a fight with one of his SKA teammates cant rememer who it was now though, but maybe they'll do something this year. SKA can recall him I think, but theres also some cash that has to go back to Sochi

Maybe look into German Rubstov as well.

Such good IQ there to pull wider.

Created chaos as a result.

A lot of players would have just made straight line towards net, but he held up at OZ blueline to make sure no offside, and with that time moved right to the boards... knowing it would stretch whole D coverage, make guys look for him... and he could still get inside face-off dot in same time but with more space as a result.

as fantastic as michkov is, I still share the same criticism of his game he needs to iron out quickly or he will struggle in the NHL. He does a lot of puck watching and standing still gliding, assuming because he's reading the ice and gets lost in his head. He needs to make that more automatic and add more motion to his off puck game, even just a little. In the NHL I think strong opponents will really suffocate him. He can absolutely dismantle weaker skill players, but 1st line or 4th line players might give him trouble because someone is just gonna punch him in the head.

He just turned 19 in the KHL.
If there's no improvement by his third season, then I'll worry.

You underestimate his vision and his skating. He always knows where opponents are and it's not that easy to catch him on the ice. And it'll be tougher and tougher with him becoming older and stronger.

16+21 after 40 games for Sochi, he's 10th overall by PPG. Next game is on Sunday against SKA, and it'll be the first official game ever in new SKA Arena.

I think the issue with gliding is linked to conditioning. When I say conditioning, I am not saying he doesn't work out or is lazy. Quite the opposite. Excluding his illness, I believe what caused his conditioning to lag is how he was working out. From last season to this season one thing is very apparently different. He is a whole lot stronger. After he hurt his knee last year, I would guess his workout plan shifted from more of an all around plan to heavily focused on strength to make sure he is not physically bullied at this level. Last season he was very easy to push off the puck so he stuck to the outside of the ice significantly more. Very much in contrast to that, this season he successfully goes toe to toe with guys physically behind the net using his body to protect and control the puck through contact. I have rarely seen him out muscled this season. The only time I can think of off the top my head was against CSKA and that D was like 6'4" minimum. Other than that he holds position in front and battles physically in the corners and behind the net. Quite the contrast and to me it can only be explained as heavy duty strength training. When Joel Farabee was younger he actually did something similar to prepare for the NHL.

After this season I would imagine his workout plan will shift again since he clearly strong enough. I would guess the new plan will have emphasis on increasing speed/conditioning

This is a super neat thought. How many KHL all stars get the chance to play in the MHL playoffs? It can't be a big number right? Imagine seeing Michkov vs Demidov. That would be awesome
