Wow! The first pre-season and everyone's head is already exploding. We sent injury recovering players, rookies and our worst goalteners against a potential Stanley cup team that was mostly complete. What about all this rebuild talk and letting young guys get playing time?

Rebuild talk? The talk is about how they aren't remotely rebuilding. That's kind of the whole problem. They're this far behind NJ, they're doing nothing to correct that, and they somehow think they're in Year 2 of a three year "rebuild."

This team has no idea what they are or where they are, and that game was example #4768G of that problem.

You're also in the wrong thread, so apparently you meant to be in the GDT and we're just posting blind without having read anything. You're just assuming what people are saying.

Holy shit. What a player. He also blocked a shot right before that led to that rush in the first place

Jesus. That pass.

Trading 3 malcontents that didn't get along with Torts is all well and good, but I agree that this team isn't officially rebuilding until they trade guys with value around the league...that Torts actually wants around.. like Laughton, Seeler, etc.

Sure is more of the same to draft a Michkov and do nothing to build around him. They'd rather build around a washed up shitty coach who will be long retired by the time this team could be good again.

It's infuriating to watch them follow a course that will waste his career like they wasted Lindros and Giroux.

Briere had nothing to do with the hiring of Tortorella. My guess is eventually he'll look for any opportunity to can him, assuming he has most of the power to do that. He's shown us he's capable of lying through his teeth which is good. Even if he says he doesn't believe in tanking I'm just going to wait to see what happens this year

The Flyers barely had anything to do with hiring Tortorella. Didn't they hire a consultant to tell them to hire a retread?

My tinhat theory is that they hire this consultant to confirm what they want to do as cover with the public.
"Thank you for agreeing to be our consultant."

"My pleasure. I have prepared these binders with complete profiles of ..."

"Here is your cheque. You can go now. And take your binders."

Not trying to be an asshole here but what's the story with the whole St. Pete/Sochi thing? Is he on loan? I know he was getting scratched early on for St. Pete

st p loaned him to sochi for the year again. all the other stuff was just noise, hes playing on the 2nd line now and sochi's on a 6 game heater

He's on loan. The story is that he had Russian Tortorella as a coach.

Tbf that is a massive insult to Torts lmao.

Torts at least got his position from being a success at lower levels, knows hockey, played at a high level and can actually manage a bench...

Rotenberg scores 0/4 on those points lmao. Only reason he is coach is his Daddys billions and his own narcissism.

My opinion of Tortorella is so low that there's no such thing as too great and insult, though.

The simple answer is that SKA is a stacked veteran-laden club with no intention to play youth. They loaned out Michkov to Sochi last year, too.

It's the best case scenario because, even if he was an everyday player for SKA, he wouldn't be getting enough minutes.

lol no

Danny B used to do that. (Don't know if it was before, after, or whenever) And did it with G. I really hope this won't be my last good memory of Briere.

This vid/song is an old fave

Around 14 secs in is the stuff G used to do. Top Shelf

Is Matvei Michkov lurking on HFBoards?

Matvey Michkov spoke about the fact that his play in the KHL is being watched in North America.

– What was your reaction when many on social networks in North America began to discuss that you were remaining on the bench at SKA ? You have a really big fan club.

– It’s very nice and cool when you have so many fans. It always gives positive emotions. I’m pleasantly surprised that they watch me so much there and that they love hockey.

But now I’m playing in the KHL , and all my thoughts are only about this. My season is now underway, I play for Sochi , so all my goals now are connected only with this team and the regular season.

– But do you watch the highlights of Philadelphia’s exhibition matches?

– Everyone watches the best moments. But the regular season there has not yet started. When it starts, then we'll watch.

“ There is spectacular hockey in the NHL , and it’s always nice to watch the guys who play at such a high level year after year,” said the Sochi forward.
