Hopefully Michkov when he comes over and if Clarke is still alive...shakes his hand with a joy buzzer, has Clarke autograph his gloves with an exploding pen and plants a whoopee cushion in his office chair. One of those pranks has to succeed in giving him a heart attack....mission accomplished.

I found this post while looking at Michkov's tagged images on Instagram. Michkov's interpreter sitting with him at the draft is someone he seems to be friendly with from St. Petersburg. I Google translated the portion available on Instagram (The rest is on Telegram), and there is one nugget that is interesting.

“A few months before the draft, Matvey wrote to me,” Mikhail continues. – And he said that he would be glad to see me at this event as a friend and as an interpreter. We communicate well, but I honestly did not expect such an offer, I was a little shocked. But, of course, he agreed without hesitation, because this is a unique opportunity. I am extremely grateful to Matvey for the fact that I ended up in the draft, got such an experience and saw it all from the inside. I understand that this is an opportunity that not everyone has. I will always appreciate it!

We arrived in advance - first to receive visas to Qatar, then moved to the States. Matvey went to interviews with NHL teams, tried to create the best impressions of himself. I acted as a translator, helped him in some way. I hope that I didn’t spoil anything with my translation ....».

So the guy who was with him everywhere says he interviewed with NHL teams (plural), while Briere say it was only the Flyers. Is someone wrong? Is this lost in translation? Does it even matter? Should I be over-analyzing a tagged photo on Instagram in a foreign language?

Seems like there is confusion after every Briere presser.

Thanks for putting all of this together, Redpath!

Yes, he said "teams"

Here's an interesting part from telegram

"I am happy that everything he dreamed about - and he wanted to go to Philadelphia - happened.
I love Matvey very much, not only as a player, but, above all, as a person. He is just incredible - close, kind, honest. There couldn't have been a better feeling in this draft than be happy for a friend who got everything he dreamed of."

Thank you for sharing this.

Sounds like terrible teammate :sarcasm:

Btw, there's a huge pre-draft interview with Mich, didn't see it posted here.

When they were talking about potential teams for Matvei:
Interviewer: Predicting what teams it might be, one of the most common options is Anaheim, how do you feel about it?
MM: I like Chicago, I would like to be there.
I: Have you been to Chicago?
MM: No, but I know what this city is, how they love hockey.
I: Which teams contacted you?
MM: Among those that I remember Chicago, Anaheim, Florida. (Obviously there were others)
...
I: What were you discussing?
MM: They asked trivial questions like my height, weight etc.
I: Seriously? They asked your height and weight? They could look it up on the internet, couldn't they?
MM: Probably wanted to verify it. Also asked height and weight of my parents, my brother.
I: Seriously? Are you joking?
MM: No, they did. I was even asked if I'm left-handed or right-handed.
I: Don't you think this is a strange question?
MM: I don't know. Also was asked where I study, who are my friends, what they think about me.

Well, now I really wanna know which team asked his handness, Montreal?

Obviously, there are few people in the world who have any real knowledge if any of this is true. From a few people who have spoken, even prior to the Spittin' Chicklets hit piece, the 17-18-year-old kid might need to mature a bit and learn how to best communicate, which surprise surprise most everyone deals with until the day they die.

From the interview that Appleyard provides on Twitter, he sounds like a competitive person who hates to lose, again there hasn't been any proof other than hearsay that it was anything more than cage rattling or loud speeches. I played competitively in high school and college and "competitive people who hate to lose" was rather common, sometimes teammates got into fights, and sometimes we didn't see eye to eye with coaches. I would like to say that it got better with age but not really.

I said it before it sounds like Montreal is trying to wipe some of the egg off their faces with their pick over Michkov and so Spittin' Chicklets was more than happy to oblige them.

We won't know what kind of person he is until he comes over and he is under the Philly media microscope.

if i had to guess, since i doubt Matvei knows (or, possibly, even cares) about this franchise's history with Russian players, they probably went and told the rest of his camp "don't worry, Bob Clarke will be dead by the time his KHL contract is up."

"So, Bob, do you have any ... windows in your office? What floor is it on?"

Yesterday I posted this to the general Michkov prospect thread thinking it was the flyers board.
I put Matvey Michkov into Google translate then copied and pasted the russian spelling матвей мичков to Youtube and there is so much more content out there than from searching just Michkov.

This one is 1 hour 15 minute documentary ish special about his time in/on Sochi. A blonde lady talks to him, his teammates(possibly about him), clips of him being a child prodigy, clips of him training, general highlights, etc. It is mostly the blonde lady interviewing him. If you know anyone that can translate it for you, you can probably get to know the kid a lot better as person from watching this thing. If you don't know anyone that speaks Russian you can still see how he generally interacts. Calm, cool, mild mannered

There are also a bunch of Russian Michkov vs Bedard videos

CSNP Sports needs to hire the blonde lady to cover him and the Flyers when he comes over.

This dude is one of my favorite interviewers.
Here's Podkolzin and Michkov, Carpool Karaoke style.
No suprise Michkov liked the Caps growing up.

Girl: How often did you check your stats during the season?
Michkov: May I say untruth?

Btw he thanked Donat Stalnov, his Sochi's teammate, for helping him with good advices about conducting outside the ice. Donat was a solid 4th liner on the team, but they named him captain. I mean it's about Michkov being an asshole to his teammates and telling f*** off to veterans...

What did he say when she asked him about Bedard? Also what did Michkov say when she asked him about his potential landing spot? The translated subtitles kept stopping when I watched.

When asked about Bedard all I got was "good player". and when asked about his own potential landing spot he indicated "he did not like it". They showed Chicago and Anaheim. Did he not like just Anaheim or both?

He said pretty general things about Bedard, like he's a very good player and he periodically watched Bedard's videos on youtube.

As to potential places, yeah, he said he would love to play in Chicago, because it's such a hockey city... not sure was the interview taken before the draft lottery or after it, though...

About Ducks, well, he said they called him and asked questions. Like what shot did he have, left or right. He said questions like this made him feel a little bit confused.
