Gabe had 5 assists in the 2 pre-tournament WJC games. All 5 were primary assists.

One thing I wonder is with NIL money, do some of these guys stay in college if they aren't going to be in the NHL right away?

Perreault's signing bonus would be pretty nice, but an AHL salary on an ELC is not great. Is he making 83k a year at BC? Have to think he could be in the Hobey Baker conversation, he's 3rd in points right now.

He’s definitely not making anything close to 80k. I’d be surprised if he’s making anything.

How many of these is he selling?

It's possible that he's getting offers that bring in more money, but I doubt any college hockey player is making that much. They just aren't well known enough nationally to earn significant advertising deals. Maybe he has deals with one or two local businesses, but if he's making more than a few thousand a year on that, I'd be surprised.

If the Rangers have learned anything, it should be that Perreault is in the top 6 and on the powerplay to start next season. Possibly even at the end of this one, but my assumption is the Rangers wont be going deep enough into the playoffs for it to be worth bringing him in early.

It may be what they need to do in order to get him signed though.

I'm not overly concerned considering the Rangers are an original 6 team with lots of BC products finding success here. If he's not going to sign willingly, I guess that's partly why he fell into the 20s, and the Rangers should trade him before it gets to that point.

I dont think he is going to play an additional 2 years in college that he probably doesnt need just to stick it to the Rangers, for no apparent reason.

The opportunity cost is free tuition, room and board. Add this together vs his AHL salary after taxes and the difference is minimal if any from the financial perspective.
The signing bonus can be 10% of the contract amount. So a 3 year contract at 950,000 the signing bonus can be 95,000 a year, or maybe 285,000 right out of the gate, rule seems unclear. That’s regardless of NHL or AHL.

He will get his ELC either way so it’s on both sides of the equation - not an opportunity cost

Sure but he will get it two years earlier if he turns pro after this year rather than playing all four years, that’s the point. He starts earning earlier so that’s two extra years of earning considering he will likely play to the same age either way. If he waits till he’s done with college to sign, he will be 25 before he can sign a second contract without the ELC limit. That’s millions he’d be putting off for an extra two years. And of course there’s always the threat of injury during the two extra years of college…
The bottom line is there’s almost zero chance he decides to play four years n college just so he can pick which team he plays for.

Exactly, but my confidence rating from 1-10 that they have learned anything is a 2 and that might be optimistic.

Don't start the SPC this season. Perreault signs his ELC after BC season is over and plays in the AHL on an ATO. Two more seasons for Kreider blocks players.

Unless there's potential for call up, in which case, just playing a few games changes everything. There's also endorsement opportunities, though he's probably not getting any. And players do receive signing bonus even if their contract slides, so depending on the situation, sometimes they can make more money.
