Gabe might
If that’s the case then Gabe will have to end up a career 90 point player. I love him and hope he continues to grow, but if you are basing this off of his wjc tourney you really need to go back and look at what laf did before he was even drafted

Just to be clear I think Gabe can be a star in this league, I just think we are undervaluing lafs ceiling in this league

I think its based more off the track record/the extra runway he will get at BC/not having to deal with Quinn/Gallant when he finally does arrive.

He's likely going to get a much bigger role almost immediately out of necessity and get the requisite minutes that a top prospect should be getting.

I don’t think he will be getting a much bigger role out of the gate and in terms of track record if laf spent his d + 1 year back in juniors he would have put up like 150 points

I agree the extra runway will allow him to grow. Maybe the problem is I still think laf will be a 100 point player in the future so while gabe can be equally as good I don’t know if he will get to that height. In a perfect world we are looking at 1a and 1b type situation with them two

Don't forget Jordan Schroeder. This board had a meltdown (probably me included) when we passed him over for Kreider

With the Gauthier situation. Rangers should try to sign Perreault this summer if possible. The longer he doesn't sign, the more of a chance he wants to force to choose where he plays... At least Gabe Perreault favorite team growing up is the Blackhawks, and hopefully he doesn't try to force his way to the Hawks to get to play with Bedard which would lower his trade value if he was to do this.

No reason to panic and rush him because of one player. He'll be a Ranger.

With the Rangers luck, we used to poke other players that didn't sign, Vesey, Hayes etc. Karma worries me that Rangers might lose a good prospect down the road. Just overthinking.

Off the top of my head, here are the NCAA players who "refused to sign" with their draft team

Blake Wheeler (2004)
Jack Johnson (2005)
Justin Schultz (2008)
Kevin Hayes (2010)
Mike Reilly (2011)
Jimmy Vesey (2012)
Alex Kerfoot (2012)
Will Butcher (2013)
Adam Fox (2016)
Cutter Gauthier (2022)

Sure, it happens occasionally but it's not as if it's happening that often.

The only example I can think of where a player refused to sign with the Rangers, was Jonathan Marchessault in 2011 but that wasn't our draft pick anyway. He was on an AHL contract in Hartford, was offered an ELC and chose to sign with Columbus instead because he thought he had a better chance to crack the 4th line there.

It's the Rangers. Gabe will get thrown onto the 3rd line tops and get anywhere between 9 and 13 minutes most games with zero PP time and absolutely benched the instant the team is down in a game. Then everyone will call him a bust as if he can control what this idiotic franchise does.

If he were in like 20 other organizations, he'd instantly get 20+ minutes on the top 2 lines and get full PP1 shifts from game 1 of his NHL career.

There is no chance he gets prioritized over Panarin and Kreider, and whatever other vet wingers the Rangers sign/trade for.

We are lucky that in his 4th year Laf finally got thrown some kind of bone. And still gets virtually no PP time as PP2 rarely sees the ice. And he's a no. 1 overall pick. Gabe wasn't even a top 10 pick. He won't be given priority. That's the sad lame truth of Rangers.

I hadn't heard Gauthier was going to play it out and sign elsewhere. Phuck Philly anyway.
