I like Lafreniere but I’m really wondering if management has seen some concerning habits with him up to this point. If he’s, 9th overall + is a solid package. Get the Panthers 2nd next year and Greig and call it a day.

Move Trochek for the CLB 1st at 15 and Voronkov

Move Schneider for the BUF 1st + Musty

5th
9th
15th
25th
27th

Add Greig, Voronkov and Musty
If there's a year to restock the cupboard and take some home run swings, this year's group between 10 and 40 overall is a great time to do it.

Get me Smits, Hemming or Cullen, Command,
Morozov/Shilov, and Preston if this comes to fruition.

There's something with Lafreniere that Drury and his group must not love. If the 9th + is on the board, I'd consider it
I've been saying for a while that Laf was/is part of that entitled group of country club members.

I have no proof or insider info, it's just body language & reading people... what they say, how they say it.

You (the general you) can scoff but I see it as clear as day.

Hard to ignore him signing that big money extension last fall and then taking a year off

I didn't take a poll, but I think many Rangers fans are okay with a rebuild, even if it is half-ass or a "retool". What they're not okay with is Drury leading it when he's put us in this situation to begin with. Cleaning up your messes is for kids, not general managers. Once you make a mess, you're punished by losing your job.

*stares at current state of most things, slightly raises eyebrow*

If Drury is planning on a couple of moves before the draft then I would expect a move tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest. He generally likes to do things one at a time and leave himself time to concentrate on each deal individually

I'm 75% that he's not going to do anything major because nothing major is out there.

I thought that Drury offered him a 2 year extension at the 11mil level, before the season, and when Pan turned hs nose up at it there were no further negotiations. Seems Drury and Artemi had decided at that point that Pan wasn’t coming back.
The fact of the matter is that the NMC to the end that Gorton gave Pan was the club Panarin was able to swing to get what he wanted with no care as to the effect on NYR. He decided he wanted LAK or FLA and used other teams to try to up the bidding on his salary with no care about the trade negotiations themselves. Which was his right, of course, but he still kind of screwed us. Pan had full control over where and when he would go if he was to be traded at all. That’s the bottom line. Drury could’ve been the best GM of all time and it wouldn’t have mattered. The only other option was losing him for nothing as a UFA.

I don't remember that offer but it certainly could be true. In any case after the new year when Drury told Artemi he wasn't going to re-sign him that kind of meant for me anyway that the Rangers had changed their minds about how strong the team was (or wasn't) and that seemed to signal to me anyway we were going to change up things a bit if not go in another direction. But anyway a more youth movement is one thing but the team is still bound by rules and if we don't spend to the ceiling we're still going to have to spend to the floor and for those who say (not saying you) we have to dump all the veteran higher salaries that's not going to work and moving Artemi pretty much was our shooting our load as far as dumping big contracts or at least for now. We're about at the floor now.

When the Rangers brought in Sullivan I think it was because they thought the team was much better than what they had seen in 24-25. Adding Gavrikov to solidify the defense some and give Fox a real first pairing defender. My own thoughts were leaning towards that too---that if the Rangers cleaned up their D they'd at least might be a team that could challenge for the playoffs. With a healthy Igor and better defense structure we'd at least be good enough to make a run for a playoff spot. That didn't happen and injuries played a part----both Igor and Fox out for extended time starting early January. The team bottomed out and shortly after Drury asked Panarin to make his list.

No value was listed, but Vince on the Rangers offering Panarin a contract:

You can be rational re. trade returns for Trocheck and Schneider.

A deal for former 1OA on a sweetheart long-term contract has to overwhelm, almost hurt the other side. 9OA, Greig and late 2nd is not it.

I’d trade Laf for another top 5 pick in this draft. I hesitate for anything lower than that. He’s not 25 yet and doesn’t need a contract
Greig-9th and a signed Spence . I think they will covet Lafreniere.....checks many boxes for them !!! They might overpay . That should be 3 good pieces for our club . Greig would be a fun add for us and what we need more of .

Where would you slot Greig? How do you fill a newly vacant top-6 spot on the Ranger that should be contributing 60-70 points?

If you are moving Laf for the main return being picks, then we really need to find a taker for Shesty as well (which I know quite a few would like). There's absolutely 0 point in having him if someone has somehow convinced Drury we are doing a full rebuild
Laf is not the tipping point for this.

Many said 2 yrs ago "WOW! Look at his playoffs!!!!"

Then he signed his contract & then... cliff.

He was abysmal.

Then we trade Panarin & "WOW! Look at him post Bread!!!"

When he does anything of worth for more than a month or two, we can chat.

He's a mediocre player & the sooner we get something for him the better.
