Hard working player that plays bigger then his punching weight every game....guys I like to send out to stir things up and make other teams hate them....draw penalties and PP's .Blue collar guys....and he has some hands !If we’re making a trade with Seattle we need Melanson as a throw in for @leetch99
His career/potential has gone downhill for him since he glared at the Montreal Draft table after they didn't take him no. 1 overall.Shane wright sucks.
Why do we want him?

At #7 we’re getting closer to the range id be ok moving Laf. Does Seattle consider concern him a difference maker? He played with Wright in the past no?
It would be dependent on the Trocheck return .Where would you slot Greig? How do you fill a newly vacant top-6 spot on the Ranger that should be contributing 60-70 points?
PreachWay too many fans ready to toss Laf away for magic beans. This team has drafted top 10 ten times in the last 30 years. All ten picks have been disappointments relative to draft position and most have been outright busts. Laf, by far, has been the most successful of the bunch (only Manny Mahotra is close). And folks want to trade him for another roll of the dice? Seriously? It's like FINALLY hitting at the casino, but because you're so pissed you didn't win the big jackpot, you're going to let it ride against all the odds.
You want more picks? Good. Me too. But the currency to acquire those picks should be guys 30+. Not guys under 25 locked up at a great hit, and trending upwards.
And before the usual crowd responds with their favorite lines:
1- Yes. I am aware that Laf had a bad year right after signing his contract. The entire team shat the bed that season. It seems more like a "team" issue than a player issue.
2- Yes, I know it looked like Laf turned the corner two years ago. But he just went PPG for 3 straight months after Panarin was moved and he didn't have to adjust his style to Panarin's preferred game. The odds are MUCH better that Laf will continue his play than that we will hit on any draft picks we get for him.
If Drury is even considering trading Laf for more magic beans or middling prospects, he needs to be fired a week ago.
Laf is not the tipping point for this.
Many said 2 yrs ago "WOW! Look at his playoffs!!!!"
Then he signed his contract & then... cliff.
He was abysmal.
Then we trade Panarin & "WOW! Look at him post Bread!!!"
When he does anything of worth for more than a month or two, we can chat.
He's a mediocre player & the sooner we get something for him the better.

We seen this inconsistent play before. What makes it think its gonna randomly click. He has the heart to get better or doesn't. Seems lazy on the ice at times. That is tellingHe was PPG for four months (January-April), which "magically" coincided with Panarin sitting/getting traded, Laf not having to defer to his East/West style, and Laf finally getting a regular spot on PP1. Even if you only call it three months (April being a half month, and February being short because of the Olympics), that's still 3x longer than your "we can chat" line.
The team is patient for years. The kid FINALLY has a clear lane to be one of "the" guys (which was the biggest issue of his development--trying to turn him into a support player). And half the fan base wants to trade him for a mystery box.
On top of that, our most promising prospect who is still developing found some chemistry with laf so we trade him away? Way to blunder the kid's development. He was PPG for four months (January-April), which "magically" coincided with Panarin sitting/getting traded, Laf not having to defer to his East/West style, and Laf finally getting a regular spot on PP1. The belief in league circles is that the Senators will use that draft capital to try to get a high-end forward and/or a top-four defenceman. The top-six winger is a priority because it’s looking pretty grim for Stutzle.
We have been told that Anaheim Ducks forward Mason McTavish is at the top of list.
A league executive said he believes the Senators have kicked the tires on Alexis Lafrenière of the New York Rangers. He was taken No. 1 overall in 2020 by the Rangers, which was the same year the Senators selected Stutzle at No. 3, Sanderson with No. 5 and Greig at No. 28.
The Senators showed interest in Rickard Rakell and Bryan Rust of the Pittsburgh Penguins during the regular season. Teams are telling us that the Penguins are trying to move up in the draft and are using both assets to see what they can get in return.
The Citizen has also reported that the Senators have held talks with the St. Louis Blues about forward Jordan Kyrou. It has been reported in St. Louis that Kyrou wouldn’t waive his no-move clause to come to Ottawa. That’s an issue the Senators are going to face.
The Senators kicked the tires on Colton Parayko of the Blues at the trade deadline in March. He refused to waive his no-move clause to go to the Sabres, but the asking price is set at a high-end prospect and a first-round pick.
Given the fact that the Blues are in full rebuild mode, maybe Parayko has a change of heart and decides it’s time to move on this summer. That discussion at least has to be had, and he fits the bill for what the Senators could use on their back end.

Senators have 'no intention' of taking a step back as Steve Staios tries to wheel and deal
Both 2026 first-round draft picks the Ottawa Senators acquired in the Brady Tkachuk deal are being used as trade chips to try to bring in a top-six forwardottawacitizen.com

He seemed indecisive on the ice at times. And I'd argue that 2026 (the four months I mentioned) was consistency we hadn't seen in his play before. And we can track that consistency to a specific event--Laf being relied on as a LEADER of the team rather than a passenger. Top guys thrive on that pressure, and the Rangers removed that pressure on day one for Laf, and tried to use him as a support guy. Stuck to the bench with the game on the line. That's not who he (or anyone who has gotten to the level where they would be a top 5 pick) was. It effed with his head.
I literally called the improvement before it even happened. He just needed a clear lane and a chance to build back his confidence/swagger. But hey, folks want him gone for a top ten draft pick. All hail the next Brendl/Lundmark/Montoya/Blackburn/Kakko/Malhotra/McIlrath/Andersson/Kravtsov or, if we're REALLY lucky, maybe we'll get someone like Lafreniere.

Are you asking me to cite if Panarin signed a 2 year extension as part of the trade?Cite or GTFO

I'm not actively looking to deal Lafreniere at this juncture but it bears noting that at least from my couch, Laf has been better in the second half of every season he's been in the NHL. He just seems like a perpetual slow starter.
But I have zero idea what the grand plan for this team is. We're talking about getting faster and harder to play against, but looking to deal Trocheck and Schneider. There aren't many fast players available.
We're looking to get younger, but most of our prospects are role players.
So it's going to be really hard for any of us to do anything except wishcast our own strategic plans until we have more evidence of what the hell Drury is exactly supposed to be doing aside from basically letting Panarin go for the value equivalent of a late 1st round pick and trying to move an all situations center on a darling contract after trading for a guy of an equivalent age who makes more to do the same things but with a worse attitude and a captain's C on his jersey.
