I wonder what part of his face Hathaway's punch broke? Orbital bone? Nose? Cheek?

I appreciate that he's game, but man, pick better battles. Also pick better times to battle - if that fight happens early in the game, maybe it fires up the team (or makes them want to get one for the gimper, err gipper if the outcome was the same).

If Cozens and Savoie get into the next game…Olofsson is obviously out. I wonder if Krebs goes out before Jost at this point.

I don’t think it’s completely on Krebs. He’s been shuffled around all year and spends a lot of time playing with a completely shot Okposo…but he also hasn’t been better than Jost. I don’t think he’s completely forgotten how to play hockey since World Championships…and I don’t think he’s completely forgotten how to play his role since last year…but he’s been bad. We should be past leaving bad players in every game by now.

Marty on Sabres Live thinks the Sabre's PP problem is zone entry and that Pkane does not fix that. Would he help ?, yes, but will not fix the bigger problem ?

Sure. The present state of our defence was an obvious accident waiting to happen. I've never been a Lyubushkin fan. He's a one dimensional third-pair slug who takes dumb penalties. But he's better than Bryson, Stillman, and Clague. And he was signed. The issue is we had him and really added nothing to replace him on the depth chart. Ryan Johnson is great. But we are about to enter a period where we get into the same scenario of overplaying Dahlin/Power to survive.

Bryson is at three games and counting. I expect him to get 25 games this year. Yuch. I don't get this. So excited to see him in person Friday, if Jokiharju is really out.
So last season at this point, with Samuelsson and Joker out injured, they would have played Dahlin, Power, Lyubushkin, Bryson, and two of Clague/Pilut/Fitzgerald.

This year with those two out (if Joker actually misses a game), they'll play Dahlin, Power, RyJo, EJ, Clifton, and Bryson. You're actually mad because ONLY three of the bottom four D-men are way better than last year?

He's mad because the name "Bryson" didn't change. Nevermind that Bryson is pretty much your average #7 Dman in the NHL......and Stillman is a pretty good #8.

And with Johnson's arrival onto the scene, one can say that Bryson is #8 and Stillman is #9.......which I think is above-average in both slots.

I don't like Bryson either...but man is that reaching deep for a complaint.

I'm wondering if Olofsson to one of the other floundering WC teams could be part of the contractual end of a deal since he expires this summer. Early on, I was thinking Garland as an option (not knowing what he's like in the room, etc... but he was available and produces at 5-on-5 in a depth role) but the Canucks are chugging along now. Most of Edmonton's forwards are on NTC or NMC that likely precludes them from coming to Buffalo. But if the Flames continue to falter (last night not withstanding), they would be a team I would hope they're trying to work something out with and that would wind up with Vic as part of contract equalization.
How about a swap for Bertuzzi, with half salary retained? Seems like he's about to get run out of town and they may end up needing a quick option to dump him. The trade would give them a different, cheaper rental player along with a bit of cap space.

On the other side, he's the opposite of the player type they want. I actually think TOR and BUf have the same needs since they have a lot of the same issues.

This team is 6-6-0-1. I don't know if you noticed. They missed the playoffs by one point last year. They basically need every edge they can get to avoid a 13th miss, but maybe that doesn't matter to them or some fans. I don't know. But today, we are on pace for 83 points and that ain't going to cut it You want to make excuses for a team with $8.5 M in cap room still playing someone like Bryson in ANY situation. Go ahead. He should be 10th or 11th on the depth chart and started the season at 7th. I guess with RJ, maybe he's really 8th now.

Maybe know who you are about to throw hands with? Ffs.
He mentioned that in the clip. That he let his frustrations get the best of him. It escalated faster than he prepared himself for. That he needs to know who he’s up against and has to be smarter next time.

Hopefully it’s not too long of a recovery. Tough way to learn that lesson but probably an effective way for it to stick.

Boring histrionics rather than addressing the specific point.

Edit - to address the 6-6-1 part...part of it is more veteran guys playing dumb, like they thought they should double down on pond hockey to reach 110 pts each (Skinner, TT, Tuch). Part of it is young FWs still struggling to learn to play disciplined hockey (Cozens, Krebs, Peterka). Part of it is bad players still being bad, mediocre, or close to retirement (Olofsson, Jost, Okposo). Part of it is a lack of coaching to fix existing problems or getting the team on the GO button at puck drop.

The D-corps has actually been a bright side. I'm not big on Clifton but even his mess-ups are better than the shit combo of Pilut/Clague/Fitz/Bryson.

What's your point? That they made the team better than last year on D in the bottom three? I don't know how you could be worse unless you purposely tried to dress AHL guys on 3rd pair for another year. You understand the season is more than 15% over. It's far from over but missing a point because of some stupid play Bryson makes in November matters in April.

The have other holes, too, obviously. Cozens is the only guy even average at faceoffs. The PP is terrible, even as penalty-killing got way better. Goaltending is average, and three cheers for not being terrible.

Overall, this is not really a playoff team, which is what most predictions outside of Buffalo called.

Personally, I still think they can make the playoffs (fan in me), but the margin of error is so small.

My point, since you ignored it the first time, is that the crappy four D-men we relied on last season played 162 games. This season only one of them remains and he's only played 3 out of 13 games. Project that out to about 18 games for the season. That's about 150 man-games worth of better D-men in the line-up this season, yet you're complaining rather heartily about the ONE guy that's still around and hardly playing as if it's going to be THE reason why they miss the playoffs. Bryson is 13th or 14th on the list of what the team can improve on right now.

Edit - oh hey I forgot...Buffalo won each game Bryson played in this season. Yeah I want him further down the depth chart or gone, but he hasn't been a playoff ruiner yet like you've been going on about.

You can't buy points and the D corps isn't the reason they have lost the games they have so its a pointless thing to really bitch and moan about ad nauseum.

Thats what I said this morning. Beat Marty to it :)

Zone entries is a mess and there is no plan and it seems like there is no plan when they do set up.

Its going to be interesting to see what happens to RyJo when Sammy comes back...

Guy looks like an NHLer and I think he should stay but where you would put him?

RyJo-Dahlin
OP-Sammy
EJ/Clifton-Joki

-Only one game, but the RyJo-Dahls pair looked nice and wonder how that would be longterm
-No knock to Joki, guy has been great but Sammy could help unlock OP to take more chances.

Idk i'm curious to see what Granato does.
