They're likely stretching his games, then same with Savoie. Then Olofsson/Kulich/Rosen until Quinn is back. I don't think Benson is sticking this year

Not if the Bills defense allowed 600 yards against and 7.0 yards per carry.

Sabres allowed 17 high danger chances against vs MTL.

Sabres offense only created 8 high danger chances for vs MTL.

And that's a trend for the entire season. Through 7 games we're the 3rd worst team in the league in both high danger chances for % and high danger goals for %.

We've had only 1 game where we created more high danger chances than we gave up. (2nd islanders game)
I would argue score effects for the sens game. We were up 3 goals for most of the game and likely gave up more chances as a result, but I agree with you otherwise. Our performance in the Montreal game isn't as simple as more "shots=we were better".

I agree w/ the score impact in the Sens game. It was damn near a perfect road game up until the shenanigans started happening late in the third.

They were the better team against Montreal up until he 2nd goal, but lost because they didn't get enough bodies to the net and got rattled after the 2nd goal; Power especially looked bad.

They do get rattled easily, but that's not very surprising given the age of this group. That's something they struggled with last year, and I hope to see them progress in that area as the year drags on.

That being said, using data at this point of the season is pointless. Nobody is arguing they played well the first few games of the season. That's going to heavily skew the data due to a small sample size.

The good news is, theyre looking better the past 3 games, and our big guns are starting to look better.

Watch Cooley be the hero of the season.

Thinking about Phoenix Copley for the Kings last year. But I don't think the Sabres brain-trust is going to deviate from their own thoughts on their goalie situation even if Cooley were to get a start and be good enough to earn the next start and so on. They're going to go back to Levi ASAP, even if that has warts.

The lines are officially in a blender

The island of misfit toys that is the third line gets a new citizen in Alex Tuch!

If Comrie is week-to-week, they can put him on IR and depending on Levi's status, it gives them a chance to call up a skater. Wonder if Biro gets a callup, with a chance to beat Jost for a spot? I don't think they call a scorer with Benson still here, but maybe they give Savoie his shot? Rousek, Rosen, Kulich all possibilities?

(I don't think they call up a defenseman, they'll probably roll with Bryson during Clifton's suspension, maybe call up Clague to sit in the press box in case of emergency).

They wouldn’t call up Savoie…he’s on a conditioning assignment so they can see him at that level for six games and decide if he’s ready for NHL games or not. Call him up and you can’t send him back when the roster is full again. These are the only two weeks you get.

Rosen has earned fist call up.

If you throw out guys who are only on an NHL roster because for some reason an organization had such awful depth they have to use a guy who belongs in the AHL for a cup of coffee or as roster fill how many players can you think of who are worse or more useless than VO? If this was a serious organization that valued winning they'd bite the bullet and waive him. He's getting paid either way so who cares?

I kind of thought they were saving face a little bit and Levi’s injury was just an excuse to let him sit for a bit to get his head on straight.

Now I think that theory is pretty much debunked with Cooley being called up.

The defensive zone is not the Sabres problem whatsoever
It's not the ONLY problem, but what you're saying is just not what I'm seeing.

NYR - two GA from terrible D-zone coverage.
NYI - Clifton cluster fark special for another 2 GA.
TB - let Hagel dig away for an hour for the tying goal.
Cal - two ugly GA from clueless D-zone coverage.
NYI - virtually no dumb mistakes, but Clifton ruins the SO by trying to deflect a weak and wide point shot.
Mtl - Gallagher left all alone at the crease.
Ott - two late brain dead mistakes leaving guys all alone a few feet from the crease.
NJ - Clifton useless defending Holtz in front, Sammy being in the way instead of defending on the last GA.

Our defensive zone play is BETTER than it was last year, but to say it's "not the problem whatsoever" is just patently untrue.

We're better, but we're not playing playoff-caliber D yet.
My reason for saying that is I think that the in zone defensive play is fine, the numbers do say we’re giving up lots of quality but not quantity (better goalkeeping would mitigate this). The bigger issue to me is breaking out the puck and turnovers in the neutral zone.

We are literally handing opponents counter attacks in numbers.
