No thanks, literally zero interest in Byram he sucks in every place we’d need a better player. He is neither physical or a good defensive player.
LOL

I think that was posted February 23rd.

Everyone holding their breaths right now hoping Byram is a player.

NHL Referee decision tree:

Sabres knock the puck down with a high stick, Sabres next to touch: Faceoff in Sabres zone.
Sabres knock the puck down with a high stick, Nobody touches, play blown dead: Faceoff in Sabres zone.
Opponent knocks puck down with high stick, opponent next to touch: Faceoff in Sabres zone.
Opponent knocks puck down with high stick, opponent next to touch: Faceoff in Sabres zone.

I have no idea why that faceoff was where it was just now. ridiculous

They use similar logic when kicking players out of the faceoff dot. We will know the Sabres are good when these things reverse.

This hurts my brain the most. We created a huge hole at F and still couldn’t address RHD
I don't agree that there's a huge hole at F for the future. In fact I still think we're set up pretty well. I mean our top 2 centers put up almost 80 goals last year. We have a possible 3C on the roster and many high end forward prospects coming. Plus Quinn.

And anyways, holes at forward are easier to full than holes on defense.

Just want to point out that they can and should still try to find a good RD this summer.
Dahlin, Power, Byram, Sammy are locked in. RyJo is an affordable bottom pair, Clifton is unlikely to move. Bryson is easy to bring back as #8.

If that's the group for next year, Adams should move Joki right now. He'd fetch a nice return from a team with the proper system and a RD need. I agree that a veteran stay-at-home would be a nice injection. I'm just not sure where a new RD fits if Sammy, Joki, and the rest are all still here.

Joki is better than Byram currently by almost every metric, and plays on the right, so if anything he's the one guy we need to keep.

Sure, I've liked Joki longer than most and yes he's having his best year. Re: the post I replied to though, I just don't see how meaningful changes on the backend can be made without involving him. Getting a couple nice picks for him that could be used to take a swing at a deal around the draft for a more grizzled experienced RD.

But maybe this is the group for next year, with Byram being the significant addition.

I have this feeling we are going to deal Ryan Johnson and I don't like it.

I hate how right you are that it feels very Sabres-y to trade a rookie who's played some pretty darn good hockey to make room for a reclamation project who seems to have peaked at age 20.

I do not understand this paranoia. If anything, Adams and Pegula have shown us that players that can fill roles on the cheap are highly valued.

Johnson is barely making more than league minimum and has shown himself to be a valuable depth piece. Why would they move him? They do not have 7 D better than him, and even if they did, he doesn't require waivers.

If anything Joker is the one in trouble, as his salary will be increasing and moving him will save the team more cap and pegula more real dollars.

Competent, two way centers who can play in the top 6 are not easier to fill. Maybe, someday, Cozens will be able to play an honest 200' game. Someday. Tage probably is what he is.

Compare the defensive and offensive impacts for the age 20-22 seasons. It's not drastically different and actually Cozens' defensive impact last year was basically the same as Casey's this year. Casey had a good all around year this year, and I'm not saying this one chart is the end-all-be-all, but to say that Cozens can't do something similar is wrong, IMO. Not to mention that Cozens offensive impact has been better, even with his struggles this year.

Thompson needs to improve his defensive play, sure, but his offensive impacts are way higher than either Casey or Cozens.

Krebs has potential as a competent 2 way center who can contribute some points.

Heck, I think Benson might be our best center long term. Hope they try to find him opportunities there in future years.

I'm hoping they reframe Cozens from his statements about trying to score 40 into someone who wins his matchup every shift instead. The goals and points will follow if he's outworking and positionally on the right side of the play against his check. That's also on coaching - he does not need to be someone who is playing just a 1-way game since they already have Thompson doing that.
