I don't normally assume that players won't sign in buffalo, but I have a hard time seeing Hanifin re-upping with the Sabres after the whole Eichel (childhood friend) situation and the current state of the team. It would be a rental for us, which makes no sense.

I think Chychrun is a better player, better fit for our needs, signed for another year, and may be open to re-signing. If he's available, the Sabres should again be all over it. He's not a RD, but there's no reason you can't keep working on acquiring a RD after adding Chychrun.

Chychrun Dahlin
Power RD (steady vet with size)
Sammy Ryjo
Clifton/Joki

Add a competent vet forward who can give us more net front presence and a little production and/or pk.

Do these 3 moves and I think everything looks different. We have plenty of cap space and trade assets to get it done. No excuses.

I'm curious what a winger with speed could do in place of Skinner. That guy is just killing transition right now - I see Tage back in his own zone, makes a strong play deep in his zone, chips/passes it up to Skinner who then just bumbles it away and they're right back on defense. He's done it at his own line, at the opponents blueline and a couple points in-between in the last few games. Even just having someone who can move the puck with speed ( I would say pace but that's been harped at by Don so I need a different word now) and show some level of high work rate to turn what Tage has done in his own zone where he does seem more involved into something else at the other end.
I agree, seeing Skinner up close, something is still wrong. He was not engaging or even thinking about taking contact

C'mon .. Tage does the same thing.. bumbles the puck away... as does Tuch.

As of right now..all 3 are not playing well.

Skinner is also the one being caught from behind and not competing on the puck. I would like to see someone else.

It's worrying that every player that gets signed to a big contract start to disappoint.

Those who exceed or live up to expectations are unsigned, Mittelstadt, Peterka, Quinn, UPL

Bad timing, or a sign or something worse.

Guaranteed contracts plague the NHL. It's got to be understood as a built-in negative aspect in all debates about player values, both before and after deals are signed.

Jost, Stillman, Bryson and Comrie sit atop that pile of wasted money...
A reminder that if Adams ever decides to do something there is no evidence he will be any good at it. Clifton, Johnson and Jost were his off-season after missing the playoffs by one point, seeing Quinn injured, and having ample cap space and assets he can’t use all of.

Good chance it gets worse.

What's the best prospect/pick/package you'd attach to Skinner to get a team to take him with zero retention? It might be the best use for our excess futures at this point.

no point - by the time they need his money, he’ll be off the books. They’re not even close to the salary cap, so why would you attach an asset to get him off the books at full cost? If anything, just retain half or buy them out at this point if you don’t want them on the roster.

Disagree. They could absolutely use/need his money in 25-26 & 26-27. An aggressive GM could use his money in 24-25 as well. And they will be getting close to the cap if they intend on making meaningful competitive upgrades to this roster.

I suppose someone could want his final three years for $4.5 at 50% retained, but even that is starting to feel iffy if his effort and involvement continues to be nonexistent.

A buyout this summer is a nonstarter imo. The cap hits from 24-25 to 29-30 are 1.4, 4.4, 6.4, 2.4, 2.4, 2.4.

The 6.4 three years from now is the sticking point. That's a massive number in a season we should be fully competitive. Plus we'd get the most cap savings next year, when we'd need them the least, and drag hits of 2.4 through the life of all the big deals we just signed. Doesn't add up to me.

The cap and more importantly the roster spot/role being unshackled from his drag could be worth attaching futures to him.
