Benson on the third line is wasted.
Skinner-Tage-Tuch
Peterka-Cozens-Krebs(doesn't deserve the spot. Quinn takes it when returns)
Greenway-Mitts-Benson
Girgs-Jost-Okposo
I also think Mitts and Benson could get some chemistry going. I would have liked to see Benson on the first line last night.. I remember last year Tuch could drive offense on his own line when he was moved away from Tage.
Krebs is a black hole out there and Benson will get sucked in.
The other option is to sign Kane when he is healthy and ship Olofsson and Krebs out for picks although I am not sure we would get much. Krebs could probably get us a solid 5-6 defender.
Repeating what others have said, but don't think of the lines as a hierarchy.
Last season, 28-19-21 were getting the second most ice-time behind 53-72-89. This season 12-37-9 is (through 3 games) the only line tilting the ice regularly in the Sabres favor in all three zones. Moreover, they are being trusted with ice time in critical moments and zone starts, whether the Sabres are down, or up.
Whatever line or role Benson is playing, he is not being wasted. He is either influencing, or helping to influence, play in a positive direction.
To the board, not just you:
It's 3 games, against 3 different teams, so far this season. I'm fine "waiting" to mess with lines until after all 12 dressed forwards play a full 60 minutes (or their share of them). If all 12 forwards, regardless of who those 12 are, are playing for 60 minutes, or nearly 60 minutes, and the Sabres are getting no results for a bunch of games in a row, I'll gladly entertain a shuffling of lines. If Don Granato wants to mix things up sooner, fine by him.
